have a look at this

Please take Anandtechs article in perspective: Un-released, early drivers on a preview platform.

Yep, the hardware is there but there's a hell of a lot of development work that needs doing before even DirectX10 is handled sufficiently well by Drivers, let alone the fact that despite Vista being out for over a year its a new concept and model for Driver writers to get a solid understanding on and develop properly for.

I say this as an ex-programmer who moved between different OS's, and MS don't have the easiest of migration paths.

However, I have to say that what's on offer is very promising.

3x 3850's ? That's an interesting scale to be thought of, by the time that we get the release drivers in March the card itself may have dropped in price to around £80-90 dependant on the model. The base OEM 3850 can already be had for less near these prices.

Also, economies of scal will see the X2 come to the fore when these drivers come out.

I for one am happy for AMD, Crossfire is scaling well (not the 100% Holy Grail, but better than it ever has) and the cards themselves perform very well at the price points they are at.

Yes but when you buy the card you buy the support and drivers too, I can understand the 9600GT drivers being a bit off in some games, but other cards should be upto scratch by now. If I wanted flaky slow(as in slow release) drivers Id get SLI / Crossfire instead of a single card. (Mainly a rant about SLI on 1 board cards)

hi
i think its looking good for amd/ati at the moment . they have the best performing single card at the moment at an awsome price if you look around.
they have the xfirex drivers out next month and possibly r700 in the middle of the year . ive never owned an ati card before so no fanboy but i do like competition

cheers

I've also been running Nvidia cards for the past 6 months, and feel that its time to go back to ATI in the Video Card department.

One 3870 X2 is being ordered tomorrow....
