Have AMD (939) prices gone up?

With the 939 processors being phased out you'd think that they would be trying to get rid of as many as they could, but for some reason prices have gone up. What the hell is going on? AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4200+ = £187. That's ridiculous (its not just OCUK, but all other retailers as well)

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ OEM = £91.59 Including VAT at 17.5%

I was considering buying a 4400+ but not for £234.

Why? What is the sense on raising the prices on soon to be obsolete products?

HI there

I did actually say 3 months ago prices would go up as product got short.

When stock goes short product goes up in price.

If you had 100 green apples and they were going end of life and as such only red apples would be left. I am sure you'd still have demand for your last 100 green apples, in fact your demand would probably increase due to them becoming rare.

So would you keep your price still the same and sell out within days? Or would you increase your profits as much as you could on the remaining apples. Any sensible business man would, if he could make 20% more and still sell his apples you would do it.

That is what is happening with Socket 939 processors. AMD now have no stock, but distribution and etailors do. As demand is still there but product is short everybody is now making higher margins as at these higher prices the stock will still all be sold just at higher margins.

Prices will now just keep increasing until the stock is all gone.

Yeah i was hoping that wouldn't be the case. Oh well I guess i'll be getting a Core Duo then, really didn't want to have to do a large upgrade and reinstall Windows again. :(
