Have dead batteries killed my Nikon Speedlight SB-600?

I've not used my camera and especially flash for a while for various reasons and now my flash is not working. I have noticed there is a bit **** inside so it looks like one or two of the batteries may have leaked but it's not much at all and all the contacts look fine apart from one which is slightly discoloured.

Would you say it's new flash/repair time? :(

*edit* Ha! After a lot of rubbing and then using a pencil to add some graphite, all now seems well. I will have to get some vinegar or baking powder to properly clean the contacts though.

There is no way I am sending it back to Nikon after how **** the service was after having to get my D90 repaired.

Flare.
