I was just suprised by the difference in price, between a top of the range ocuk pre-built system now and in 2005/early 2006.

Is this due to technology becoming cheaper? Or just becasue there isn't any "extreme new tech" - for lack of a better expression? Or that ocuk aren't pre-building such high end enthusiast systems i.e. a maxed out skulltrail?

combination, of things really.

1 of the contributers being memory price crash. you can now get 4GB (considered well over nomal) for like what, 50-60 quid? previously in relative terms it would have cost twice that for the then large capacity at least.

we are also in the middle of a gfx card lull, put a system together with SLi 9800X2's (thats £800 just for the gfx cards, £400-£500 for the relative CPU, £200 for the mobo, with some SSD hard drives and voila u soon be speccing up a £2000 system.

also i think that peoples perception of value has changed and whilst once it may have been the thing to do to spend £3k on a pc system most people realise that you can usually get 90% of the performance for half the price!
