Just bought the GTX. I can use up to 2048x1536 resolution so I thought the bigger bandwidth would be better. Am I right in my purchase and by my way of thinking or should have I gone for the GTS. I just received the card and rig in sig on Friday so I can send it back if need be.

I'm not complaining though. C2D @ 3.2Ghz over my X2 @ 2.8Ghz and the 8800GTX over the 2900Pro is a lot better but it's after seeing these 800Mhz on the core GTS 512mb that's made me wonder. Would my GTX still be the better option over the GTS if both overclocked?.

The GTX still has the lead at higher RES + lots of AA/AF in most Games.

But it all depends on price cause you bought a 1+year old GPU v a newer Gen one.

Clock Speeds are not everything, look at Cores on ATI cards for years well higher than Nvidia but lower Memory.

If your happy, thats all that matters.

Hi Helmut and thanks for the reply :).

You've put my mind at rest and I got the GTX on this weeks special. So I paid about £30 over what I would the GTS and if the bigger bandwidth will do me better in over 50% of the situations then that's music to my ears.

Very true on ATI having higher speeds but not the performance and this is must be true with GTX and GTS as the GTS hasn't got the bandwidth to make the core and memory increases worthwhile as much as if a GTX could clock to 800Mhz core and 1000/1100Mhz memory.

I was just a little bit curious as I've already tested 2 of my friends GTX's on my AMD rig and I really felt the burn when going back to the 2900Pro. The GTS is unchartered territory for me.

I am happy though :).

You did the right thing, no doubt about that :D
Enjoy a great card that has reigned for a lot of time and will rule supreme in those resolutions for at least another 3 months :D

The only alternative really would have been getting a 1GB GTS if they are even out there, which would still be crippled in terms of memory.
You got the right card :D

NP, In a ideal world if someone had a decent card now, I would say buy neither of above Cards and wait 8weeks or so, but I aint sure what you currenty had to Game on. :)

Brilliant guys, thank you. You've made an ill scotsman smile slightly before sneezing again :).

I have the 2900Pro (lying behind me) Helmut and wanted to use AA so opted for the GTX. I had a lot of money to fork out this year so left my new system till xmas was out of the way.

Overclocked the 2900Pro to 847Mhz on the Core, 1000Mhz on the memory, x2 3800 @ 2.8Ghz and 1GB of DDR400 @ 466 odds (2x512mb) and 2x 250gb hd's. So the jump up has been very noticeble so far. I've been ill so not had the chance to try a lot of games out. I did try World in Conflict though. With AA and all the bells and whistles it ran superbly compared to my old system. The first and last levels really put strain on my old system but this system just laughs at these conditions and continues to give me a good playing experience. Jumping back from Timeshift on the GTX to the 2900Pro was a bit of a hit so I'm looking forward to playing Timeshift as well as loads of other titles. Timeshift doesn't even have AA options but even at that the GTX is much more powerful in that game. I had to drop resolutions and an option or two when I put my 2900Pro back in after testing my m8's GTX.

I'm going to sell the 2900Pro anyway and keep this GTX as my back up card as I was going to do that with the 2900Pro but as the GTX was so cheap it's a better idea having the better card to rely on.

Hope you all have a great new year :D. All the best.
