Have I got enough cables?

Hi,

All my new kit arrived yesterday ready or my first build. Not had a chance to get everything out of their boxes yet and read manuals, nor am I likely today. Did get a chance to have a quick glance at the PSU (Corsair HX620) instructions last night, and this set me to thinking about whether I have enough cables. New system is being built on a P5B Deluxe and includes 3 SATA HHDs, 1 SATA DVD, floppy (yes I know), and an 8800 GTS. Baring in mind I'm a complete noob to this I was just wondering if I had enough out of the box cables to run this lot?

Something else I actually had considered, but forgot when ordering, was data cables for the floppy and DVD, which are OEM. A friend of mine said these will be included with the mobo. Not opened the mobo box yet, and TBH until I have a good chance to read the manual I'm not going to know one cable from another. As I say I won't get a chance to any reading/tinkering today, but I am going out later and will have the chance to get any extra bits I need. So if anyone can tell me if there is anything extra I need that would be great.

Cheers,

Jubbly

PS Does a retail C2D come with a thermal pad attached (I have an AC Freezer Pro to fit and some Arctic Silver)? If so, will I need something to remove it? I've read somewhere you do. Is it Isopropyl?

Yep, you will get the cables you need for the dvd/floppy drives in with the mobo.
If your HDDs are OEM you might need an extra sata cable (usually get 2 with a mobo?) If they are retail, you'll be fine.

A retail CPU will have some sort of thermal pad/paste stuck to the bottom of the HSF, you can get special thermal paste remover or there are other things you can use but im not sure whats best, so i'll let sum1 else answer that.

Sorry to jump in but I was going to start my build today but ive not got arctic silver, can you just attacthed the heatsink to the chip using the thermal pad that comes with the chip? Or is it best to remove it and use arctic sliver?

Iam very egaer to start building :D

I'v always just used the stuff that comes with the heatsink and i'v never had any problems with it. (Although i'v never overclocked any of my pcs)

Just to check, you mean the grey 'stuff' on the bottom off the fan? On the copper. Iam using a e6600, as you can tell ive not done this before. Would just like to confirm before hand.

If thats correct, could I not remove the fan when I get some arctic sliver and and remove the old thermal paste and put some arctic sliver in its place. I don't think I have to remove the chip to do this?

yes you can remove the heatsync and fan later on to replace the pad with some artic silver.

but you might need to buy some cleaner for the chip and hsf as the pad can leave some residue and that might not be soo good.

Cheers jackassuk56, just thought though won't I have to take the motherboard out off the case to un-clip the heatsink from the back off the motherboard?

If its the stock hsf and its plastic clips, then no, you twist them for it to come off. But many HSF replacements (Such as tuniq) have a backplate theat the heatsink screws to, which you have to do outside the case anyway.

Thanks for the reply Touch. In the end I managed to take few moments to asses thibgs b4 going out. The mobo had enough SATA & power cables (6) for my needs, so no worries there. I will need something to clean the thermal pad off of the AC Freezer, but I'll need to hunt through the forums to find out what's best.

I thought only the stock heatsinks come with pre applied thermal paste?
