Spec
overclocked i7 930 2.8 @4.00ghz
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3r Motherboard
6Gb Corsair XMS Ram ddr3
64Gb Crucial sssd
Thermaltake 1500 w toughpower psu
Corsir Obsidian 800d case
h50 cpu watercooler

The physical setup is done and w7 64 bit is up and running i would like everyones opinion on the following

Replaced the supplied corsair fans with Sharkoon 1000rpms.
The rear fan that is attached to the h50 cooler is an intake fan and is attached to the cpu header. The cooler is attached to nb header just above gpu on the right. The top 3 fans are connected with the case intake fan from the power bay and is coonected to sys fan 1 header on the right just above sata ports.

Question 1
Is this correct and if not is there a better setup or more optimal configuration for cooling?

There are 4 hot swap sata bays on the right, have tried every configuration possible and my ssd would only be recognised by a seperate power and data lead and is currently resting on top of the hot swap bays - 3 other sata hard drives recognised instantly so am thinking theres a problem with the hw bay con on bay1.

Question 2
Now that its all setup should i try to rma the case as this would be a massive inconvenience - unless i install windows to one of the sata drives but then am left with a useless ssd - unless i leave it sat where its at.
Well thats the crux of the matter - main concern is the cooling and how i could improve it further if i want to install 2X gtx 285's in slot 1 - top and slot 3 bottom.
At present idle temps around 36 and load 57
The case is sat under a workbench at present and was sat on top when temps were 33 idle and 47 on load.
Question 3 Everything a sofar as the os is concerned is working crunching for seti etc - but when i switch to the overclocked settings seti seems to throw a fit and discard lots of gpu work units - even though the system as a whole is stable in every other respect. I have installed boinc and unified lunatics and have left it at stock cpu settings
Is there a way i can get to use the overclocked settings and configure boinc to not kick these work units.

Thanks all for your time, feel free to pass on your thoughts i can take criticism as long as it well help the build progress :D

As you say, everything runs fine but for errors doing seti - whats seti using - your gpu.

Maybe it's the speed the cards running at that's the problem, try adjusting the pci-e bus speed down a little at a time till the errors stop.

That's all I've got at the moment.

Thank you S'ah its a gtx260....so later today i should put the overclock settings on and reduce the pci-e bus settings will try that...heaven help me:D

I would turn the rear fan around and turn it into an outake fan - and if possible attach a fan either side in a push-pull config. You want to try and get hot air out the case as quickly as possible, letting only cool air get in.

Does'nt that motherboard look tiny in that case, change to mATX and have enough room for 2 in MLI mode :p (I'm patenting MLI by the way :D)

:D by the time it gets a few gpu's in there it'll fill up pretty quickly, on the plus side theres plenty of room for a double bay reservoir for the watercooling...in time. Although theres a guy thats posting a build in a lan li case and it does look good. I'm thinking these look a bit tasty once pricing is known depending on loudbobs benches and results!

Apparently you can get the on load temps down to 60 degrees mmmmm

I thought it was best to research it first so i have a wealth of info i am trying to digest but i have not done anything as yet....getting irritated with it now. I just cant understand why the overclock while stable in every other respect is dumping gpu wu's and when i get irritated its best left alone because it allways ends up costing me money...bit like the night i was browsing and came across OcUk distributed computing ;):)

If your running the Lunatics Optimised App it may just be the app killing unwanted work units.

I think you can check this in the logs (Seti website - finished work units).

Goto your account on the SETI website and check TASKS. In there you can check all work units i.e. errors. Click on the Task ID for a unit and it should say: VLAR WU (AR: 0.042955 )detected... autokill initialised.

Voila - nothing to worry about.

One more thing - get your new case sorted. I know it's going to be a pain.........OcUK might let you order a new one and return old under warranty (so you can swap straight to new case and return old afterwards).

Loudbob you made my day i will do exactly as you say regarding tasks, at least this means i can go back to using the overclock settings.
Yeah have thought long and hard regarding the case, i love it and i know its up and running but cash permitting this week i might take a trip to ocuk on friday to get some stuff and if they agree i could buy a new one and return the old one for a credit once i had transferred everything that would save a monotanous few days waiting for the mail man.
I know if i was you i would have a reclining chair and a flask of coffee parked just under the letter box for the next few days....hope it all goes well for you:)

The other thing is that there are probably two parts of overclocking that could affect Seti GPU WU's

1 is the Pci bus speed, make sure its 100 or 101 max
2 is the memory being overclocked too much? Make sure the timings are right with cpuz

1 is the Pci bus speed, make sure its 100 or 101 max

On my motherboard (P5Q-EM) I have to set my PCI-E speed to 110mhz to get around an FSB wall. Not had an issue with it personally. Gfx card has been folding for over 6 months (excluding a two month gap in the middle).

YMMV

Are you using the optimized app then?
If you are using the optimized app and that is whats causing the problem (after following loudbob's instructions) if you want you can send me a copy of your app_info.xml file to my trust address and i'll edit it and talk you through it to stop it doing the VLARKill option.

Morning Reaver yes am using the optimized app will restart machine in the morning with overclock profile and as soon as it happens again will post a screenshot- i tried looking through the errors as per loudbobs advice some showed the autokill some showed out of memory. Will also send you the app_info.xml much appreciated :)

If I remember correctly, I had the same issue with my GTX260's - out of memory.

My solution was to drop my cards to 602 - core, 1476 - shader, 1107 memory clock speeds and do a reboot.

Not had an issue with 'out of memory' errors since.
