So my system consisted of an i5 6500 8gb of RAM and a XFX Rx480 GTR. I play the hunter call of the wild and could only hit 55fps on high settings 1080p 60hz monitor. So ive bought a Strix 1070 8GB model without thinking of bottlenecking on the CPU is this going to be a problem and if so what remedies can i do.

I'd err towards doing that but you might still have to tone down some settings to get better frames.

Or should i buy a higher hz 1080p monitor for now like a 120hz that would sort it out right?

Like you said if i go to 1440p im back where i started toning down settings to hit 60fps

It's not a disaster that you've bought a GTX 1070, you just need to look long term and see what are you happy with. If you're perfectly happy at 60Hz at 1080p, then you can run games on maximum settings for longer. If you go with a 1440p monitor or a higher refresh 1080p monitor, then you'll have to compromise on the quality sooner down the line.

if game doesn't have upscale resolution settings, do it through nvidia experience or what ever its called, render 1440p and whack all settings max for the time being at least !
