hi folks,

I got a new motherboard today to help me out with my overclocking. I transfers all my components over but when I started the pc with the new motherboard in it kept powering up and stopping and it just kept repeating this. I thought it might have been a dodgy motherboard so I tried the components in a motherboard that knew worked and this time the power came on but no display came to the monitor.

I then tried using the motherboards dvi out and still nothing. I then swapped the ram with some other and still the same problem. The only thing I dont have two of is the processor. But surely that is the only thing left.

It was working this afternoon, I shut down and dismantled the pc, cleaned the CPU with some isopropyl wipes to clear the mx-2 off it them mounted it in the new motherboard with the other components.

Any other suggestions on what I could try? I tried clearing the bios of both motherboards and this didnt help, also I made sure all power wires were fitted correctly

Specs are;

Q9550
4gb ocz ram
GTX280
Was a lanparty JR P45 motherboard matx

Is now a LanParty Dark DK X48.
Power supply is a 650w corsair (I think) but it has been fine. I have had the lanparty matx rig going for 3-4 weeks and before that an E8400 and 4870 rig.

I put my cpu and ram and gfx card into an old gigabyte 775 board and at first it didn't work but after some messing (cleaned the cpu again and reseated the gfx card) I got it to post and get into the bios.

I thought I was sorted then so I put my rig back together in my case with my new board and same problem! Pants!

Its a really pain as the gfx card and the processor are water cooled and so taking everything out and putting it back is a right pain!

I don't even get a beep or anything from the new motherboard so not sure what is going on!

Even though it is water cooled I plug a fan into the cpu fan socket until I can turn off any warnings etc in the bios so it;s not that.

EDIT: AAAAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH I have just had a bit of a closer look at the specs and it says supported ram either 6400, 5300.

Mine is 8500. Surely that can't be it though!

EDIT 2: just tried some 6400 in it and it was still doing the same, back to the drawing board

So all metal case, was the psu lead in a plugged into wall?

Did you do it in a room with carpets? were you wearing socks?

Just wondering if you earthed yourself before touching components?

All the components work in my gigabyte board so its something to do with the new mother board or the setup in the case. I am going to take it out of the case tomorrow again to see if I can get it working, such a pain with the water cooling stuff.

No loose stand offs causing a short, any loose or broken cable, everything plugged in correctly

and is the 6 pin 12v connector in?

you have installed a new motherboard. this means you need to do a fresh install of your operating system. if you want to keep your files then i sugest you rebuild your old working system then store the files somewhere safe.

unlike other hardware changes, a motherboard requires a fresh install because it has different chipsets and drivers.
