Have i made a mistake ?

I would say when it gets the big exclusives out would be the right time to get one as opposed to a system where people are still undecided as to whether there is any real quality out there.

Currently the system is prone to poor ports or at most, equal ports when, for what is a lot more expensive of a console, should be delivering better ports.

It currently offers both Internet browsing and Blu-Ray over Xbox360, but as most people here are posting on this forum, I'd hazard they already have that on their PC... which also offers Linux (and more expansive ones at that). As for offering more, the Xbox360 currently offers DivX and XviD which is pretty major and I know a lot more people who would rather have that over Blu-Ray, especially when you look at the numbers of HDTV owners to none HDTV owners, leaving PC monitors... which is much easier to connect to with Xbox360 (and therefore HD).

I wouldn't necessarily say it offers more after all.

If you can get both consoles, then it's definitely worth getting it as I'm sure it will start delivering at some point, for me it makes a great DVD player.

Imo R:FOM, Motorstorm, F1, Ninja Gaiden, Tekken, Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, Ratchet and Clank, Drake's Fortune is easily enough quality content! It will easily last until the big titles such as Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo, Unreal, Final Fantasy, Killzone, Jak & Daxtar are released anyway.

Better ports? Seems like two contradicting words? Only really bad ports now-a-days are EA releated im affraid.

You can stream Xvid/Divx's via Nero Mediahome! There is mention of full xmb support in a near update.

360 just hasnt got that many great exclusives imo next year, and theyre likely to come to PC anyway!

Is it?

I thought they were cheaper than the XBOX360 now, cheaper than the Elite anyway, with the added bonus that it already has the HD optical drive included... and the 40gb could be upped to 120gb easily anyway.

They aren't cheaper, plus most people won't need the Elite.

I wish my PC could offer blu-ray... the cost of the drives in the PC is, or at least, has been prohibitive, making it a much better option to get a PS3, than to get a bluray drive for the PC.

As for DivX, I think you're well aware that it's coming in a firmware update for the PS3 soon, so people wouldn't have to make a choice whether they want vid or bluray, they can have both.

And this, an ever improving selection of games, newer ports, such as the upcoming Burnout Paradise, and Devil May Cry 4, allegedly being superior on the PS3, for cheaper than an XBOX360 Elite, the choice seems simple.

I won't even go on to mention reliability any further.

My mistake then.
I thought the Elite was about £299, but the PS3 £280.

You're right about most people not needing an Elite, they don't need an Xbox at all!

Just a quick reply about the ports thing.

Its not really PS3 at fault over bad ports, It's down to Devs surely. I guess if the PS3 had similar architecture to the 360, We'd see better ports, But then what would the point be of having 2 consoles on the market.

PS3 is trying something different, And i hope it succeeds in the long run. 360 is using what it knows works, And is succeeding now.

Whist the future games list obviously looks good (albeit... familiar...) the games you've listed aren't really that good. Tekken is a PSP game and plays like an old game, F1 is great, Resistance is very dull and boring in SP (MP is good), Ninja Gaiden is an Xbox game, Ratchet and Clank was just dull and not as good as previous versions, Warhawk is a poor mans Battlefield, Heavenly Sword is a poor mans God of War (of which 1 and 2 are both a lot better) and Drakes Fortune looks... well, awesome, so I'll give you that one.

Ok, cross-platform titles. It should have the superior cross-platform titles.

You could do that on the Xbox360 too, however it's just not the same as sticking it on a USB stick is it.

I'll mention this one more time...
Microsoft showed games released THIS year, rather than future years for good reason, Microsoft had a strong list of releases this year and Sony never. Microsoft announced at the time they were focusing on releases THIS calander year, however as for next year they have Alan Wake (by the same company as Max Payne 1 & 2) and Ninja Gaiden 2 (the proper sequel to arguably the best game on the PS3) which are 2 that have been announced. You'll find out a lot more WHEN THEY ARE ANNOUNCED.
Saying it's not got that many 'great' exclusives next year is a bit daft when Microsoft haven't announced them yet. As for the PC argument, it's stupid and I'm sick of hearing it as games that go to the PC from Xbox360 are always worse (Gears of War, Lost Planet, Test Drive Unlimited, Halo, Halo 2, Fable etc...) and then you have Mass Effect, Dead Rising, Viva Pinata, PGR, Forza amongst others.

I did say Blu-Ray was a benefit of the PS3, however only a fraction of the population have a HDTV to use it. Even less have 1080p sets.

We've been well aware lots of things have been coming in Firmware updates aren't we?

Up coming yes. It's been out over a year now. Xbox360 over 2 years.
You say Xbox360 Elite, however I could go and buy an Xbox360 Arcade and STILL play the games the same as on an Elite.

I won't even go on to mention reliability any further.

Ah, the old 'reliability' come back from a Sony owner. Not seen that one before?
Did I mention reliability? No.

But 720p is still an improvment, good enough to watch bluray on.

And they've delivered too, haven't they!
Still Home yet to come, which should get the social side of the PSN sorted.

Because it's still just as valid. Most of my console playing mates have a 360, thankfully they're more open minded than many people seem to be in here, and like/are going to get a PS3 as well... but none of them are on their original XBOX. That in itself is enough to stop me, and many other of my friends from buying one.
