Have I messed up my copy of Windows 8?

Hi,
We have recently completed the build of our new win 8 pro 64 bit based PC.
All installed fine and we did connect to the internet to download updated drivers etc. There was no screen asking whether we wanted to activate windows 8.
After about a day, the AMD graphics card broke and we sent it back to OCUK.
We decided to buy a better graphics card and went down the nVidia route.

Back in the days of windows XP (When I last built a PC) you had to agree to activate windows and so you could reinstall as many times as you like before agreeing to activation when you were totally happy.

As we were changing from an AMD to Nvidia card we have formatted to make a fresh start and reinstalled windows and all the new drivers etc but we have not connected in the lan cable and so not connected to the internet yet.

Now a message is telling me that we need to activate.

My worry is that it activated automatically the first time when we connected to the internet and now the key has been used and so if we do try to activate now it will not work.

Have I messed up the use of the key and if so what do I do?

Thanks for your help,

Peter

Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply. I feel peeved in that the broken AMD card messed up the original installation so much that windows would not even start and I did not have a spare card to install instead to get it up and running again.

Am I correct in assuming that some sort of screen will pop up if the internet activation does not work advising me of the telephone number to call?

Peter
