Hey guys,

I recently bought a Maximus Hero which was the 280 pound variety. I planned on buying a 9700k in 2 weeks to fit it but upon reading about benchmarks, prices and lack of HT in the 9700k im now thinking about the 9600k saving a little cash and going from there. I currently own a 6600k and only game n watch videos on my pc. Would the 9600k be a decent enough buy? What do you think? Would it match well with my new board? Be enough gaming wise? Thanks guys any opinions given will be greatly appreciated

If you are planning on doing some encoding tasks consider the 8700k as it has hyperthreading (6 cores & 12 threads).

If just gaming and general use, the 9700k will be your go to as you want all the IPC you can get (8 cores only).

Going from a 6600k to a 9600k is a pretty pointless change, especially if the 6600k is overclocked. Going for a stupidly expensive motherboard is a waste as well. If you are going to do justice to that board get a 9900k which would be a better upgrade. I went from a 4790k to my current 9600k and to say i was disappointed with the change is a understatement. What I should have done was bide my time until Ryzen 3 comes out in mid year.

Even better advice here.

I'm in the same boat as seeing what Ryzen 3 brings before deciding on whether its worth retiring the 4670k to a desktop machine for Mrs Shawrey.

Tbh im not keen on AMD but yeh if they get faster n have the best ofcourse ill buy theres. Ive decided on the 9900k, gunna break the bank but needs must. Ill then look to upgrade in 2 years time or less. Probably be a 3080ti next if thats what there called..... that is after my fanatec steering wheel. Then again a ti is probably out of my reach now what if the prices
