I currently have 3 x AOC I2757fh monitors and due to having child #2 currently growing in the missus womb i shall soon have to abandon my man cave and turn it into a bedroom for the wee one.

I only play games, and the little work i use my PC for is mainly done over RDP so i don't have any fancy requirements in that area.

So I'm after a gaming monitor. Probably in the £300-400 region though if anything slightly more expensive is worth its value then i may consider it, and basically i've not kept up to date with new technologies as when i bought these it was IPS, VA, TN and 120hz as the fancy feature, but it appears that we now have 144hz, gsync, 240hz etc. to think about. (I don't even know what gsync actually is!)

So educate me folks! What would you recommend?

EDIT: oh my giddy aunt that Asus PG278Q ROG looks dribble worthy!

What's the difference between the Philips 272G5DYEB and the Acer XB270HA to make the Phillips over £100 more expensive?

I'm personally holding off buying a new monitor until some of the new 34" 21:9 displays are released so I can ditch my dual monitor setup and go back to a single one. The upcoming AOC 34" monitor is rumoured to be in the £500-600 price range so that would be perfect IMO!

If you want something for £300-400 I'd say go for a single 27" higher resolution 1440p IPS monitor rather than getting too worried about refresh rates. I have a 120Hz monitor and to be honest I was disappointed with it's TN panel colour reproduction after having previously used an IPS one. It's especially noticeable seeing them sitting next to each other. To my eyes the difference in refresh rates isn't particularly noticeable. Possibly slightly when playing fast moving games but the poorer colours, contrast and viewing angles are a constant annoyance.

I haven't seen Gsnyc in action to decide whether it would warrant the cost but after my experience with 120/144Hz,3D and TN panels I'm inclined to be pretty sceptical though I've heard good things. Not willing to take the plunge after feeling like I was burned with 3D/120+ HZ until I see it for myself though.

I've spent most the evening obsessing over it (typical of me lol) I'm liking gsync more and more from the looks of it. I've got a 780 so it'd work fine with my setup too.

I'm now tempted by the 27" Acer 144hz 1mz gsync monitor. While it may be 1920x1080 + 27" which i know a lot of people aren't a fan of, luckily I'm quite used to it from my current AOC monitors.

I'd love to be able to afford the 1440p Asus one, but sadly that's out of my price range, and the 4k monitors don't interest me too much due to the amount of extra graphics processing power required to ever manage a decent fps. As per usual no one monitor fits what i'd want perfectly :p

If there was a 1440p, 144hz, gsync monitor for less than £450 i'd be on it like a shot!
