Hi all,

I expect this is going to seem like a very silly question but ill ask it anyway before spending cash.

This is my current rig:

x6800 @ stock
8800GTX
4gig DDR2
680i mobo

I have been thinking of going quad core for a while now but on playing the new crysis demo my mind has been made up due to generally choppy frame rates. Considering my current CPU and taking into account I dont want to spend much more than £350 ish which quad will give me the best bang for my buck? Im thinking the Quad Pro Q6700?

Cheers,

Skynet

Noooooooooooo.

If you're for buying a quad before January then the Q6600 is the only sensible option.

The Q6600 will clock almost as far as the Q6700, and Penryn is due early next year and the resale value of the Q6700 will drop like a stone.

If u spend £350+ on a quad now i think many ppl will find out where u live, and slap u with a wet fish for being so silly!!! :D

just wait untill jan and get a quad then its the only sensible option as Cob said :)

You guys are right. On doing a little more digging it seems that the Nvidia drivers released especialy for Crysis are crap! I downgraded to the latest version (non beta) on their site and Crysis now runs like a dream so I cant see a need for an upgrade just yet. I'll hold out for the Penryn if I can.

Damn nvidia and their drivers!

I've not tried the older ones, mine runs fine on the current ones. Might try it tomorrow.

Plus the new ones boosted my 3DMark score.
