Quick question,

When the 360 is off there is still power to the usb ports, my laptop HD that i have at the moment stays powered up and spinning.

What i want is a external 3.5" HD but it must turn itself off with the 360.

So the question is have you got one and does it turn itslef off, if so what model is it?

Thanking you in advance

Jonny

I think the Western Digital My Books will do that. I have got one which switches on/off with the PC but haven't tried it on the 360 as it's in NTFS format. Not sure if the 360 can read NTFS or not?

I dont think it can read ntfs matey, although it doesnt need to read yours to test if it swithces itself off, give it a try ;) :)

I use a laptop HD in a £1 enclosure to hold my music, and it doesn't turn off :(

I assume it's probably the play and charge kit's fault.

Yay it is mate  A option in the dash would be nice to turn it off cos i dont use play and charge.

Its a pain in the backside to pull the cable out everytime i want to power the drive down....

......waits for smeone say i'm idle....

This is what I have got, the WD My Book 250GB.

Formatted as Fat32, there is a tool on the net you can download to format in Fat32 & keep the whole size rather than 32GB.

Holds my whole music collection  Connected via USB to the 360, & that runs through to my amp :D

Turns on & off with the 360 automatically.

Highly recommend :)

Hmm, that's a good idea! Most of my MP3s are scattered around on blank DVD-Rs as I reformat the PC too much, so it would be good to keep them all in one place and have the 360 play them.

You sir are a star.

I was going to get that drive from OcUK anyway! lucky.

Can you point me to that tool?

Thank you

Can someone explain what this is all about?

Can you connect an external hard drive to increase the 360's disk capacity??

NO, but you can fill it with mp3, jpeg & WMV videos to play on the 360.

ah right, so it cant save game files onto it, but it can read from the drive?

i like this idea!

Save games and arcade etc will only go on the 20GB microshaft HD, but all you media will be fine on your 360, it will also read thumb drives, card readers etc, there is even an ipod plugin.

I have briefly used my ipod with the 360 and was very impressed by the ease of use and functionality.

So whats the advantage of using one of these external hard drives to streaming it all from your pc? Is it just that the pc needn't be on?

Whilst we're on this subject, does anyone know if you can set up a Network Attached Storage device to be read by the 360? That would be my ideal setup - a central media store that can be used by both my pc and the 360, without needing each other.
