I visited the National Space Centre in Leicester today. They have some interesting exhibits, rockets, spacecraft, and a whole lot of other space related paraphernalia. The feral school kids high on blue smarties seemed intent on only smashing the start buttons (of which there were many) of the interactive attractions. I'm not sure if it caters for those who have more than a passing interest in spaceflight.

Have you been recently, and what did you think?

I've been with kids. Good for kids I think, wouldn't go on my own.

It was a few years back and I liked it.

I still remember their demonstration with hydrogen.

They had two balloons one filled with hydrogen and the other balloon was a mix oxygen and Hydrogen. (Probably 1:2). The balloons aren't huge, they are about the size of a head.

She takes one of those lighters with the long neck and sets the balloon fully filled with hydrogen off. Makes a pop and a flame appears briefly. Nothing spectacular.

She then proceeds to take out ear defenders and tells us to cover our ears. Then she sets final balloon off. I was standing about 10m back and I felt the shockwave in my chest. The dust in the rafters was shaken loose by it and rains down on us.
