What do you guys reckon.

If you keep a i5 2500k well cooled and under a very good voltage range it won;t shorten the life?

Say if you get a i5, no clock keep the volts at 1.35 and thermals under 60

But if you whack it under say a Phantec under 60 degrees at 1.35 but clocked to 4.5ghz.

I wouldn't have thought so right. As long as you don't overheat it or overvolt it.

Im trying to defend that if you don't overheat it and overvolt it it wont shorten life.

Thoughts?

No need to debate, this is from OCUKs 2500K product page:

***OVERCLOCKING GUIDELINES***

- Do not exceed 1.425v core voltage, doing so could limit lifespan of the CPU
- Aim to keep temperatures below 70c underload if at all possible
- Do not overclock with BCLK, again doing so could limit lifespan of the CPU
- Recommended memory voltage is 1.50v, so make sure to run your memory at 1.50v, higher than 1.60v could limit lifespan of the CPU
- These recommendations come from OcUK and Intel, your warranty is un-affected but we highly recommend you adhere to the above to make sure your CPU lifespan is un-affected
- All Sandybridge CPU's worldwide should be run at the above or lower voltages, no higher!

keep to those settings and it'll run all day long :)

Phanteks/Alpenföhn K2/Noctua D14 - all very good coolers. Depending on the chip, 4.8-5Ghz isn't out of reach for a stable overclock.
