Basically we have 2 severs on the network

Server 1 (Live)
Server 2 (being prepped)

we need to make an image of the server, we tried using SonicWall CDP device but for some reason when you load up the acronic software on the server, it only gives you the option to backup via network location (browsing in other words) FTP or the normal local drives, is there anyway I can do this by using an IP address??

The SonicWall CDP device has an ip address but for some reason through this sonicwall/acronis bare metal backup utlility you cant just put in an ip address

are you not able to use acronis to backup to the other server? is it that you want each server to back up to the other one? how big are the installs? you could always backup to a USB hard drive and then move around after the image has been made.

Regards Sam

What exactly are you trying to do?

With the CDP, you must create an image & save it to a storage (via FTP or network share, or USB attached device). Once you have an image, you can restore it.

You can't clone a server live. Save the image and then restore from the image (if that's what you're trying to do).

If all else fails, RTFM http://www.sonicwall.com/downloads/SonicWALL_BareMetalRecovery_UserGuide.pdf

With Acronis you should be able to backup live to a drive , network drive, hidden partition, ftp etc.

What Acronis version are you using as for a server you should have a server version. Have you got raid?
