Having a problem with low FPS...

I've recently got my hands a preowned computer that would serve as an upgrade to my old system (which had a Athlon XP 2700+), which I'm happy about. :) The problem is that I'm getting some big problems with my graphics. I was wondering if anybody had any ideas?

Specs: Pentium D 940 (Yes, yes. It's running at about 80^c according to the BIOS, and I've switched the temp throttling off in said BIOS)
2GB DDR400 RAM
ASrock 775i65G
Geforce 6800

Now, in the 2700+ system (which had a MSI 6667 motherboard, fyi) I was getting FPS of between 20 and 30 in Team Fortress 2. Now I'm getting 6. It's the same GFX card, same RAM. I'm going to swap to a X1600 Pro and see if that works, but otherwise I'm at my wits end. Ideas?

You need to sort the cooling, that is far too hot. The CPU will throttle itself even if the BIOS controls are disabled. That alone would give you poor performance.

Other than that, check the mainboard drivers are all up to date, check in the system tab for any unidentified devices.

Uninstally graphics and use driver cleaner then reinstall with new.

As it's a prebuilt, check there aren't onboard graphics that are active.

Does you 6800 need an extra power cable ... and is it connected?

Sell both systems on a auction site, and build a new bugdet system... Even £200 would build you a base unit loads better.. and you would still get a few quid for the old stuff.

Just my thoughts...

Sorry, that's not on the cards at the moment. :p

I got the basic problem sorted - I needed an Intel chipset driver. The CPU temperature problem? I've underclocked the processor to 2.4Ghz per core and I'm still hitting 82c under load. I'm going to reseat the heatsink and see how it goes.
