Having issues with DDR5 for 9800X3D

Got my 9800X3D last week, installed it into an Asus Tuf B650 board with 2 x 32Gb Corsair Vengance DDR5 6000Mhz, CL30. Machine was rock solid from the outset and remained so for nearly a week. Yesterday evening out of the blue it started shutting off at fairly random times, when it restarted it did the memory training again so I suspect a memory issue. Looking on the Asus memory compatibility list it didnt look like these sticks in the 32Gb variant were on there (CMK64GX5M2B6000Z30). Just ordered some slower 5600, CL40 which is on the compatability list so hoping that'll at least be stable.

What motherboard/memory configurations do others have with the 9800X3D? Am I leaving a lot of performance on the table with this memory?

I did try switching off the EXPO (or whatever they call it) memory overclock in the BIOS to run it at 4800Mhz, it still crashed.

I also was going to get the Tomahawk but found the Tuf X650 board so cheap I couldnt resist. Kinda regretting that decision now!

I might try with this slower memory when it arrives and if its no good I'll I'll return it and the motherboard for something a bit hgher spec'ed.

It's not something I've ever done in the past, I'm not into tweaking so generally run things at stock. I'm not really sure how to go about tweaking the timing but I could certainly have a look.

The bios is the latest available, I updated it when I set it up last week.

Any suggestions on what I could try to change to increase stability would be appreciated!

Quick update: at the above setting when running MemTest64 the machine resets after 30 seconds or so.

I switched off EXPO and managed to get through a single pass of MemTest64 before cancelling it though I'm pretty sure last night it reset during normal usage with EXPO disabled. The setting with EXPO disabled are:

Been building and using PCs for 30 years and all this is brand new to me

Zentiming screenshot with EXPO disabled but I've manally upped the DRAM frequency in the BIOS from 2400 to 2800, still seems stable after a very quick memory test...

Given the above, should I enable EXPO and then just start manually reducing the frequency a step at a time?

Perhaps try Memtest86 booted off a USB stick to rule out any possible Windows issues?
Thats something I was thinking. This is an old Win10 install upgraded a few months back to Win11. Perhaps a fresh Windows install would be a good idea. I'll get Memtest installed onto a USB stick and give it a run.

Well I just finished a single pass of memtest86 off usb with EXPO enabled with no errors so perhaps before delving more into hardware tuning I do need to do a fresh install! That sounds like a tomorrow job though :D

Thanks for all your help so far, its much appreciated.

I did a re-install of Win11 last night and things seem to be stable, for now at least. Ran a few passes of Aida64 Stability test and left Satisfactory running for an hour or so and the PC didnt reset. I'll have to see how it goes as it was stable all last week until it started playing up a day or two ago. Fingers crossed, if not I'll continue to look at memory tweaking.

Hey, thanks for the response. Yeah I did order some replacement, slower ram but I cancelled the order before it was dispatched. I've had a good long 4 hour Satisfactory session tonight and the machine has been stable and has been in fact since I did the reinstall of Windows 11. I've got my fingers crossed that it'll stay this way!

Interesting about the QVL lists, it does beg the question why they bother posting them at all if thats the case.

Again, thank you all very much all your assistance was much appreciated.
