Having issues with hdd docking station

I purchased a docking station for backups and it worked fine when I tested it with a normal 3.5" hard drive and I was able to copy files from it. I tried to use the docking station with a hard drive from my ps3 that broke to recover some photos and game saves but the hard drive isn't showing up.

What could be causing this?

It seems the PS3 uses a modified file system that cannot be read by windows.

I did however find this Guide for using the built in recovery console. (use at your own risk).
