Having monthly English lessons on the forums?

A lot of users have utterly appalling English skills on these forums. Most, if not all of these people aren't in school anymore, so they will probably live the rest of their lives not knowing the correct form. Would it not be a good idea to have monthly English grammar/punctuation lessons? If anybody is caught getting that month's lesson wrong then they are given an hour long ban or something?

I've already devised the first lesson as an example:

Lesson 1 - of, have.

It's extremely common for people to get mixed up with these. When speaking fast people usually say "should've" but when they write this down they seem to use "should have" because it sounds like the pronunciation of should've.

Bob should have paid attention at school.

I really don't see how it matters? Stop being so patronizing and get a grip.
Just trying to be helpful. Wasn't my intention to patronise you CasKirensys. It's not aimed at you, or anyone else for that matter.

The "ban" bit wasn't serious by the way, that would just be completely silly, I hoped people wouldn't take that seriously. :(

Asim, I'm not trying to be awkward or anything but you teaching people English would be like Jeremy Beadle teaching people to clap.

I'm not going to bother pointing out the mistakes you made out in your OP, just along as you understand that they exist and your own English isn't perfect.

I could accept someone like edrof making one of these threads but the fact is, he wouldn't because he's not a massive bell end.

Why are you getting so personal?

I'm just trying to highlight common mistakes people make. I'm not teaching Shakespeare.

Contrary to what you might think, I don't need to be edrof to do that.

While we're on the subject of 'gangbangers', every time I hear that word on Cops it never fails to make me laugh. The way they just say it so casually just gets me every time.

Rather a lot of personal insults in this thread, careful people...

Exactly.

I don't understand why some are taking this thread so personally. I haven't named any names.

For example, if I had made a thread in Photography about "Common mistakes while taking portraits" there would be absolutely no issue. People who are **** at taking portraits would benefit, anonymously if wanted.

Most people who take pictures and are that interested enough about them that they are posting in a photography forum are interested in taking better pictures and learning how to. If you offered critique on someones casual drunken night out snaps you'd probably get a similiar response.

People use English because they have to not because they are interested in it itself.
But I'm not critiquing anyone's English skills. Never did.

Well my point wasn't quite as well made as I was intending but my point is most people don't post here to improve or share their English skills, whereas in Photography they post specifically to share/improve their Photography skills (or just show off).
That's a fair and correct point. :)

But that doesn't justify taking it personally, and then showing hostility towards me. Example:

What a charming fellow you are.

If I may be so bold as to offer an opinion? Focus on getting your mind and body out of the gutter before lecturing others on their grammar....
