Just got myself an AMD Phenom II X6, some bargainus 4GB OCZ DDR3 1600 RAM from OCUK and a new MSI 880GMA E45 board from elsewhere... Put it all together and installed 7
All going well, low temps at stock (20s idle and high 40s on load) so I thought I'd have a go at clocking it. Pushed it up slowly to 3.5GHz (non turbo) with a tiny voltage bump and all of a sudden the PC just shut off while Prime95 testing. No probs I thought, may need some more juice. Alas, no power at all. No fans, LEDs or anything else. My PSU is getting on a bit (a Coolermaster iGreen 600w) so I suspected it may have bitten the dust. It has a status LED on the back which was solid red - apparently indicating a fault/short. First thing i tried was removing everything down to one stick of RAM and 1 hard drive. Still no joy. Today I went and picked up an OCZ Mod Extreme 700w PSU (for a rip off price but hey ho
) and still no joy. Done the ususal CMOS reset/battery out
Going to take it out of my Mini P180 and hook it up on my desk in the morning. Have had a board failure every year for 4 years on the trot (using different bits)
Anything else to try before packing it up for RMA?
