Good day all.

I have posted on the ubuntu forum here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1767255

But as of yet no replies.

So I am hoping that someone here might be able to help me more.

I have tried installing both 10.04 and 11.04 64bit server on my old server without any luck.

I get as far as setting up the partitions, and I then get the following Warning.

parted was unable to re-read the partition table on /dev/mapper/sil_bhafdhcafccb (no such
file or directory). This means Linux won't know anything about the modifications you made.

As said this happends on both 10.04 and 11.04 64bit server.

The motherboard is a Tyan Thunder K8SD Pro (S2882-D) <Click for link.

This motherboard uses the Sil3114 chip for the SATA ports, and I understand that this is classed as a FakeRAID.

The Tyan Thunder K8SD Pro (S2882-D) motherboard has the latest bios (v3.09).
I have also just had a custom bios made over at bios-mods.com to upgrade the Sil3114 rom from v5.0.64 to v5.0.73, but I am still having the same problem.

If I don't use Raid-1 and install with only a single drive the install is fine.

Can anyone please advice me on where to start to get this problem sorted.

Thanks for your time.

Best Regards.

There are two different RAID types being talked about here; FakeRAID, and Linux software RAID (mdadm). Mad Professor, you seem to be trying to install using FakeRAID. For a number of reasons I would recommend you don't do that; FakeRAID is just generally a bad idea, both with Windows and Linux.

inSilica is describing a Linux software RAID setup. This is what I would recommend. I haven't read that guide beyond seeing that it was describing mdadm though. Disable any FakeRAID options in the BIOS prior to installing, so that the disks appear as just disks to Linux.
