Having problems with my new 290

I bought a r9 290 last friday, but on heaven and valley benchmarks im not too happy with the performance. it was jittery and the scores are almost identical to my previous gpu the 670.

is this to do with bad drivers or what?

Did you remove the geforce drivers before installing the amd ones? I had the same problem with mine and i'm pretty sure that fixed it, runs great now

no this is a completely new setup with a clean format

It seems a lot of people having issues with 290 and 290x? Non-ref couldn't come any sooner?

I took some steps to try and remedy the problem:

in bios set the primary video output from auto to pciE

set a custom fan profile instead of an auto one using asus gpu tweak

the jittering / freezing has stopped, the only problems i had were 1 artifact in heaven benchmark and screen tearing in valley benchmark.

i got these results
