Right chaps basically, turned my dell xps m1330 on this morning on for it not to boot.

I get to the vista green bar thing, and then it hangs for decades and eventually gave me a BSOD.

Now this singled out this file...usbccgp.sys.

Vista's own start up repair tool doesnt load and I eventually get the same BSOD again. When I try to boot from the OS disk to repair I get a black screen which goes no where.

I've tried booting in safe mode on to be presented (after a considerable time) with a black screen and a cursor, which I can move.

Don't know what to do next guys! please any suggestions or experience of this?

Googling hasn't really helped except identify said file as the one which controls the microphone.

Is there any kind of physical switch or BIOS setting whereby you can turn off the webcam and mic?

In Safe Mode, can you ctrl+alt+delete and access task manager at all?

Nope i'm not even certain its actually in safe mode. Within the bios I can't find anything to turn them off :(

uh oh! I have just had to reformat a laptop with the very same black screen and pointer.

It wouldn't load into the desktop, nor safe mode and all the startup repairs in the world made no difference.

Nor did chkdsk, nor repairing the MBR.

I hope you don't have the same issue.

With regard to the startup repair not loading, you can download it, just Google for vista recovery disc download

oh gawd! well i've done something I thought I'd be do and handed it over to a pc repair shop. The fella said it could be a dyinh HD or a faulty motherboard. Just really hope he can get all my data off and it just a case of a new HD

Won't be buying dell again

I suppose it's a bit late now but if it was a data recovery thing you could have probably done that yourself with a Live CD. Hope you don't get charged too much!

I don't think it's a hardware issue, I was able to recover all data before formatting, and since then all is well. Seems to have been some form of conflict or virus tbh
