having troubles connecting my PSP to my PC

Hi Just got my PSP which I bought from my mate. when I connect it via usb to my PC I get this message.

"windows need to install driver software for your psp type A"

I choose the option "locate and install driver software (recommended)

but it doesn't find the driver and my PSP wont connect. do I need a driver for my PSP or should it work with out one ??

any help is appreciated ! running on vista

I know with windows XP it works fine, just pics it up and it appears as a remote storage device. Have you tried letting Vista connect onto the internet to locate drivers?

Hi yes I have done that and it doesn't seem to find anything then prompts me to install the disk to install the driver

"inset the disk that came with your PSP type A"

any ideas ?
