I tried using this guide - http://www.iclarified.com/entry/comments.php?page=1&enid=1880#commentsanchor

but Iam having problems on step 2, each time I try to restore in iTunes and select the .ipsw from my pwnage folder iTunes detects an error 5 or 9. So if I run quickpwn and select my .ipsw that comes up autimacally(the file saved in iTunes) quickpwn works but only installs installer.app on my iPhone. Cydia is nowhere to be seen.

I made sure that all of my apps where shown on my springboard before I started any of this.

Please help me out here would really appreciate it.

When i did it, i just updated to the official apple 2.2 fw by simply letting it restore itself. (not shift > clicking)

Then load up quickpwn and go from there. Not had any problems with my 2g iphone so far on 2.2 by doing it this way. :)

2G to 3G iPhone, what firmware are you trying to use?

You need to restore it to the firmware you want, the apple build, not a pwned firmware.

Then you run Quickpwn which pwns the standard Apple firmware. There is a link in my sig to a guide.

Got the latest version of Quickpwn?

Have you put a fresh recovery install of the 2.2 firmware?

Make sure iTunes is open.
Switch of your phone.
Hold down the home button and plug it in.
Keep holding down the home button until iTunes recognises the phone in recovery mode.
Hit restore and a fresh 2.2 will be uploaded.

Then run the latest version of QuickPwn, which will run the jailbreak. There is no need to use PwnageTool.

Well that worked ok until I restored my iphone from a backup and Cydia isnt showing again?!

Before I resotred from my backup Cydis was on my springboard if thats helps.

Why would you want to get around it?

Well ive restored and JB to 2.2, and now setup my iphone with new apps and contacts now.

But just gambled and hit setup as new iPhone, and everything has been kept. Strange was worried everything would go back to stock, bonus
