Having TV in every room. Freeview works but Freesat doesn't

Hi all,

Here is the scenario,

I have a new flat. The lounge which has 4 TV points in it.

The 'main' tv point in the lounge is a wall plate that has "sat 1, sat 2, FM and a normal TV socket". There is another female TV socket on the wall next to this which has a cable connected to Sat 2 (f plug to coaxial). I have worked out that this connection is what sends the signal to the other 3 TV points in the flat through an A240d RemoteLink Booster.

If I plug my Panny Freesat TV into sat 1, I get freesat. Fine.

Now, this is where I get confused. If I plug my TV into any of the other 3 sockets, I get freeview but no freesat. So, I figured, if I moved the loop (f plug to coaxial) from Sat 2 to Sat 1, then I would be pushing Freesat around the flat and not Freeview.

But it doesnt work. All other TV points are normal coaxial outputs so I have another coaxial to f plug connector. If I plug it in to the rear of the TV in freesat, there is no signal. BUT, if I plug the cable normally into the freeview tuner, I still get freeview!!!!!

If I walk in to the lounge and unplug this small loop cable, I get nothing, anywhere.

How can I get freesat (and ideally freeview) bouncing around the flat?

This isn't that clear from your post, but what TVs do you have, and do they even have Freesat tuners? Satellite signals shouldn't be sent over standard RF connections and can't be sent through normal amplified signal distributors, so I've no idea why that link between Sat 2 and the female socket even exists.

Do you get a satellite signal on both Sat 1 and Sat 2 using the Freesat input on the Viera?

I'm about to check. It's a Panny with freesat tuner built in :)

I agree about the above, it seems odd. What's more, if I take the normal output from that corner and plug a coxial cable into the female socket so, socket to socket rather than socket to TV, I still get the freeview signal in everyother room, as I would expect I suppose :)

ok, so, both SAT 1 and SAT 2 provide both freeview and freesat signals to the telly.

I've had:
SAT 1 to freeview
SAT 1 to freesat
SAT 2 to freeview
SAT 2 to freesat

Here's a pic of the face plate

This is how it was when I moved in

Right, that makes no sense at all assuming that after it's gone back up that RF connector on the right it that it goes into a distribution box in the loft.

You won't get both Freesat and Freeview off Sat1 and Sat2, you'll get Freesat alone unless you also connect something to the TV socket. I'd say that short cable is meant to sit between the TV and RF return (assuming that's what the right connector is for) so that if you don't have anything connected to the ports in the living room the rest of the house still gets TV.

The only way you're going to get Freesat around the house is to use a Freesat box with an RF modulator and connect the RF out to that connector on the right.

Yep, My findings suggest the socket on the right (input) connects to the 4 way booster in the cupboard (no loft).

I definately get both freeview and freesat from SAT 1 and SAT 2. I had one cable plugged in to the freesat tuner on the TV and the other to the freeview tuner on the TV. Both received their respective chanels. I even swapped them over and it was still the same.

Can you recommend a freesat box with RF modulator?

I'm not overly bothered tbh, but if Freeview HD springs up, I can only assume my built in Freeview tuner will not decode the HD signals. Freesat tuner will however :)

Currently, with the picture above, I get freeview everywhere. If I unplug the cable, I get no signal :)

It must be wired in a mental way that doesn't correspond with the labels on the front of the sockets then. Do you get Freeview if you connect a coax cable from the Freeview tuner on the TV to the "TV" socket on that faceplate?

Yip :D

As you can see, I've removed that socket from the wall to see what was going on. That part of the unit, Sat 1, Sat 2, TV and FM has just two cables going to the back of it, there isn't room for 4 so I can only assume the cable is carrying VHF, UHF and LNB?

i wasnt aware that the panny freesat tv's also had freeview in them as well ?? i thought it was one or the other as its 2 seperate services.. hmm interesting

One cable will ba carring VHF and LNB the other will be UHF and LNB.

You wont be able to connect the sat out to the return feed as this will be split and you cant do that with sat signals.

To get freesat in every room could be quite expensive, (depends how many rooms) but you might get away with an octo LNB and running cables to the rooms that you want freesat in (Bear in mind that you will need two cables for sky+).
