G'day, I'm a young driver (23) sorting out insurance on my Golf,

I understand the point of having some 'excess' on your insurance, but on the post office website I have the choice to drop the excess from my chosen £150 down to zero. And it makes nho difference to the premium?

Is this likely to be a glitch their end, or is having zero excess possible? I ask as under 24's are also slapped with an extra £200 excess anyway, so by choosing zero excess I'll still have to pay £200 anyway, which I can deal with, however my chosen £150 plus this extra £200 is a pain in the ....

experiences with this guys?

cheers all

If it says zero and it doesn't change the price, do it. Even if its a glitch, once they take payment and send out the certificate, they will have to honor it.
If theres a £200 excess anyway then its quite possible its not an error and its just the way they run their policys. Either way, do it :)

I think most insurance companies offer zero excess if you are willing to pay a higher premium. If it doesn't change your quote do it.

You have reduced the voluntary excess. They probably have a standard comp excess as well as a young driver excess. If its not changed the price then go with the lower (obviously) but your policy will still have some excess etc.

My excess on my policy with direct line is 350 Vol. Excess + 400 Comp. Excess. Only upside is that i'm 22, 0 NCB and I only pay £850 to insure a fiesta ST. They pretty much neglet to tell you about the Comp. Excess unless you read the fine print on the directline website, well i couldn't see it so I got quite a shock when they told me on the phone when I went to swap my policy that I would be paying £750 excess lol
