HAVN HS 420

The temps are good without an AIO and should be better with one lol

I would have been interested to see, with a top mounted AIO, whether the temps are better with bottom intakes or side intakes. I mean, I don't see the point in running tests that aren't really relevant to the average builder.

I've just about sussed out all the competition now and I'm still a mind to get the HAVN.
No case is perfect. Close in the running are the NV9, Flux, and Lian Li that I have forgotten the name of. Oh, the Lian Li O11D EVO XL. My favourite is actually the Lian Li, becuase there is no PSU bump in the main cavity.
The Flux is discounted, becuase it almost seems that the GPU cooling fans were added as an afterthought, and slightly in the wrong place. Besides, it has a very boring look. I am not particularly fond of fishtank cases, but the Flux doesn't look nice to my eyes.
Finally, the NV9 is discounted becuase, if there has to be a PSU bump, I think it is better at the bottom rather than the top. Also, the rear door is quaestionable for me. It's an unnecessary addition that may just prove to be a nuisance.
As a final point, I do think that the HAVN has the best GPU support.

So, it's down to the Lian Li O11D EVO XL or the HAVN. Eitrher way, OCUK win!!!

I bought a HAVN. What finally sealed the deal, was that I realised the Lian Li has a lot less cooler height in the main cavity. Doesn't sound like a big deal, but with ever increasing graphic card sizes, I want as much space as possible to bend that GPU power cable!!

Got my review sample today from HAVN, special thanks to Steve from Overclockers UK! We have an epic build coming in collaboration with Noctua and Thermal Grizzly for this. First thing to note is the sheer weight of this! It's nearly 20kg with no components in it! Took some muscle to bring it upstairs to the studio setup. If you have a bad back, i wouldn't advise on a one man job.

That's pretty much what I have, with the exception of the cooler.

I had a number of new Chromax fans, so I just bought a few extra to "complete the set". I didn't want the build to be over-blingy so there is little RGB in the mix. RGB can be nice, but in all honesty it's something I would leave off most of the time!!! Seems odd to get a fishtank case without RGB, but I just happened to like the cooling approach of this case and the build quality. The fact it is a fishtank if anything is a negative, lol.

The case and extra fans arrive today. I am excited to start the build.

The first step is to just move my existing PC to the new case/fans/cooler. Once it's all done and in a few months time, the plan is to replace the motherboard/cpu/ram. In the mean time, I need to build a piece of furniture for it! I want to get it off the ground a little, and also need to put something over the top of it. Cats, you see, and they will jump on top of it if there is nothing. So, it will be in to the workshop to build a prototype.

Case arrived! The delivery guy craftily placed it on it's side to hide the fact that they had managed to bash a huge hole in the box. Luckily there was no damage to the case. Or at least, at the moment I don't think there is.

It's absolutely amazing. The quality is outstanding.

One thing I had no idea about, is there are two 6-way, powered PWM fan hubs in the case. I had no idea about those, and in fact searched the online manual and didn't find any mention of them. They are well hidden from sight. You could be forgiven for missing them.

If I have one observation, it's that the rubber feet are too small and leave the case too low to the ground. I have uneven floors so a side panel could easily scrape the floor. I am not quite sure how I will solve that problem. I suppose the best approach would be to stick some felt pads on the underside of the existing feet.

Quick review-
Very well made and thought out. Good solid quality.
Not the beginners case. There isn't much room in the back so you need to be tidy.
I bought the horizontal GPU case, and the fans in the floor really could do with a stand-off like the vertical-GPU case has. This is to make the wiring easier.
The side fans need the same, because they are too close to the panel filter. When fans are in suction, they produce fan more noise if anything gets within an inch or so of the front side of the fan. I solved the problem by making my own fan spacers, but this is not something the average builder could do.
A MAJOR downside of the case, that I didn't realise and wasn't mentioned in any of the reviews is that there is one PCIe slot cover missing. The 7th. Just look at the case, there are only 6. This means that the last slot on the motherboard is useless. This really should be highlighted in the sales blurb. I only noticed this late on. You might not it important, but with modern GPU's there aren't many useable slots left, to to lose the most likely one is bad news. Oh, actually, there are no useable slots left. My motherboard doesn't have a pcie slot in position 6. So you I can't have a card in the PC if you have a large GPU.
It's a lovely case, but I do think there are one or two problems with it. Wiring is a bit of a nightmare, and I really would suggest using Corsair Link so you simplify that. There just isn't the room for a plate of spaghetti. The biggest downside is the loss of the 7th slot. That really should be highlighted in the sales blurb.

Oh, dammit, this is not going well. I have just noticed that it's damaged. When it arrived I noticed it suffered a large impact. I just fully assembled the case, and its twisted. Good grief, now it has to go back anyway. This is not going well!!
I will not replace it. The loss of the 7th pcie slot, I was pretty much decided that I would return it anyway. For some motherboards it means you can't have any pcie card (apart from the GPU) and that just isn't acceptable for me.

In summary, its a beautiful case. However, it's designed for looks and there are some functionality compromises. In particular, all the reverse fans don't look great. There isn't much room inside the case so I would recommend Corsair Link. Also, the side fans are very noisy, due to their close proximity to the filter. The lack of a 7th slot cover at the back is a major downside. You WILL limit your motherboard choice if you want to keep the possibility of ever adding a pcie card.
The shipping weight is huge and I suspect that there will be some shipping problems. Something that heavy is going to get thumped around, and it hardly surprises me that mine was twisted.
It's a case that I would strongly recommend if looks are your thing, just make sure to thoroughly check it out when it arrives.
It strikes me that the case is really about vertical GPU and there were some design failings for the horizontal version that were never resolved, nor is it really designed for side fans.
