Is there any ruddy news on when\which games are gonna support this type of physics??.

I mean, how cheap are X1600 series graphics cards now, as well as dual PCI-e motherboards.

Surely games developers could use there own physics engines and still support GPU physics (Crysis and Alan wake, I'm looking at you). Especially with ATi's CTM interface\API\whatever.

I remember seeing the Alan Wake physics demo about it using a Quad core CPU to power it's physics, and feeling slightly underwhelmed. It looked pants compared to the demo's ATi (hell, even nVidia) have shown.

How cheap are the cheapest Quad core CPU's?? £170?? and that's only recently!!

Can pick up a X1600 series for £60ish now, which is much better at physics.

Hell, you can get the new HD2600XT's at close to that price, and I bet they do physics like you wouldn't believe.

a lot of X1800 and X1900 are going cheap second hand too, not to mention X1950Pro's.

Yes, I'm sure the main problem is that it's still mainly ATi/AMD that has cards that can do physics well, but Intel are still the only people with quad core CPU's, and I'm willing to be the nVidia 8600's can do physics very well too.

So, why don't developers start thinking about doing physics on the GPU, and if they are, SHOW US FFS!!!.

.

i wouldnt go as far to say it can do physics a lot better now considering quad core cpu's are completely mainstream.

i would prefer just making the games support quad core a lot better, as opposed to having another power requiring peripheral in my case

Yes, but the point is moot, the CPU is simple not as good at doing physics calculations as the GPU is, and having quad core means that your still using more power, not as much as a gfx card sure, but get a lower powered one on 65nm process and it uses a lot less power.

i'm willing to be if Crysis used gfx for physics rendering, gone would be the "lag" you see in the video's when a tank crashes into a hut, or a building blows up, and it would blow up into a lot more pieces.

FarCry had the exact same problem when it came to physics.

*Just the point about Quad cores being completely mainstream. Umm, yeah, only one chip maker has produced a quadcore so far, and it has only just recently come into a price bracket which would be considered good for enthusiasts.
