Am I being dim but I can't sign in with email address as @ key doesn't work just brings the console down.

Hmm I didn't have that problem. Perhaps try copying and pasting your email address from notepad or something instead? Or maybe if your keyboard is set up incorrectly try shift-2 instead and see if you get an @ symbol.

Tried shift 2 as I thought about that (Yank layout?) didn't work I just get a white box filled in.

hmmm I edited a ini and changed the tidle key off the console reloaded the game and it signed me in straight away no need to enter email or password! Strange.

Had the same thing. Even hit every obscure key on my keyboard thinking it may have re assigned itself somewhere else! Re loaded and it went straight in. That's Beta for you.
