I have real beef with this "test"

I took it when i was 18 and passed it but it expired after 2 years so i had to take it again recently.
The first time i took it i turned up, no revision and passed with flying colours.
After taking it more recently i failed 2 times in a row....aceing the question part 49-50 both times but fails on the hazards...what i have issue with is the "magic window" that opens and closes when you must click, why dont they change the test so you click on the hazard so the machine knows you have seen it?

Anyhow i finally passed it a few months ago but only after i changed how i was clicking, i threw the official DVD away and just did what i did the first time and clicked a bit more often even though they try to scare you out of that.

Has anyone else had any horror stories of this bloody test? Not only that my test is next friday and now i have to do another aprt in the practical where i take the examiner somewhere....i swear its all a money earner....

end rant :D

I did mine 7 years ago, but at the time I was click-happy and just clicked whenever there was even a hint of what might have been a hazard.

They tell you that you can fail for clicking too much, but I think you'd have to just constantly click to be pulled up on it.

Other than being double the age of everyone in there when I did mine, nope. It is stupid though.

I think hazard test is stupid however I never failed doing it (once for LGV and once for Motorbikes). I remember clicking about 5-10 times per video.

Passed first time no revision.

Had no issues with clicking, just clicked on each hazard I saw and as it developed.

Not sure why you found that so hard?

I actually failed it twice because they try to deter you from clicking too often, but if you don't you'll just fail.

It's a ridiculous test though - if you can't perceive hazards you won't pass the practical, simple. It's an excuse to charge more for the test.

It was the clicking that got me well that or the "window"

Seeing the hazards is very easy, you really do have to be a complete mug not to spot them, its just clicking when they "become" a hazard. So glad i got it out the way. Also i hated the people at the test centre in guildford. some fat bloke who snorts and coughs 24/7

I tried my wife's practice exam and failed it because, as a motorcycle rider, I see everything as a hazard and was clicking like crazy.

Bus - Hazard, driver might be mad.
Man - Hazard, might jump in road
Drain cover - Hazard, might be slippery
Change in road surface - Hazard, may upset bike
Girls - Hazard, may orgasm at sight of awesome bike
Bird - Hazard, may crap on visor
Child - Hazard, may cry due to noise of open pipes

Hah! I got 0 or disqualified for one of the hazard videos (bike test) as I clicked too many times. It wasn't that I was clicking like a mentalist so I thought the limit was pretty low on total clicks, if that's how it's judged. This was 3 years ago.

I failed my first theory because of this, had 50/50 on questions but then fell short on percep. I was basically doing as you said, worried about clicking too much so clicked as little as possible. I think its a totally ridiculous test!
Using my DVDs at home I could see a hazard develop even where it registers in my head the DVD didn't agree with me and so the clicking window wasn't open, you have to have the exact same opinion of when an where to click as the person who made the clip did.

Went on to pass it the second time with 74/75 - 50/50 on questions then did my practical first time. Test needs to be ditched the practical now is hard enough!

I did the HPT for Bike then Car and passed first time both times. Now I'm doing my D1 Minibus Licence and have failed it twice for clicking too many times on a couple of clips. Obviously on the second test I was trying to be careful but still got zero'd :(. I think it's more down to 'clicking behaviour' than number of clicks though. IE, if you are clicking rythmically it thinks you're trying to cheat. It's just annoying if you feel that there's a hazard every 5 seconds!

He's obviously not hero material like you

were your spider senses tingling by any chance?

Or perhaps I used a bit of intelligence.

You know the introductory part of the test, where it tells you EXACTLY what to do, and shows you examples?

Mirror that technique.

Couldn't be easier - if you can't do that, I'm worried about your intelligence.

Hows the air up there on your high horse? I watched the clip, I had revised/practised and yet i still failed. And as for my intelligence its hardly rock bottom.

I just think the whole learning to drive process is very painful, from having to deal with instructors, HPT and now the practical as well. Glad I did only the basics with an instructor and then the majority with a parent.
