Hazro HZ27WA Owners Screen settings – Calibration

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/hazro_hz27wa.htm
http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/

After searching through OverclockersUK Forum, I realized there isn't a dedicated thread for Hazro HZ27WA owners to discuss/share thoughts/ideas for screen settings – calibration. So I thought I would start one to try and get the information in one place. The two links above have relevant info.

The HZ27WA has default settings of:
Brightness 50, Contrast 50, Sharpness 50, Colour Temp Normal, DCR Off, ECO 50

The PQ is pretty good out of the box, but I thought the colours were a little washed out to my eyes and I found changing colour temp to warm improved colours. I don’t have a calibration tool but I was sure I could improve on this and after a bit of initial tinkering came up with these settings:
Brightness 30, Contrast 90, Sharpness 50, Colour Temp User - Red 30 - Green 22 - Blue 30, DCR Off, ECO 50

After further refinement I am currently at:
Brightness 34, Contrast 81, Sharpness 50, Colour Temp User - Red 30 - Green 22 - Blue 27, DCR Off, ECO 50

I noticed these are not too dissimilar to TFT Central’s calibrated results, but that site was working with an early HZ27WA which was not factory calibrated properly, so I’m not sure how relevant their setting are.

In a side by side comparison with my old 20” NEC 20WGX² Pro CCFL backlight AS-IPS screen which has superb colours, to my eyes I haven’t quite got the HZ27WA colours as good yet. The colours are not quite as vibrant although the black depth is a little better with plenty of detail.

Regardless of using the factory default or my settings one thing I have noticed is that the Lagon LCD Monitor test page for Gamma Calibration (link above) does not indicate that the HZ27WA is close to the sRGB standard, i.e. a gamma value of 2.2. I’m not sure about this, maybe white LED backlight S-IPS screens don’t work with the page? But with previous monitors once setup the page usually confirmed the gamma was close. Would be interesting to know how this page reports gamma for others.

Please post your settings for the HZ27WA whether by eye or calibrated as it would be useful to build a repository of owners settings.

Mine at the moment is:

Brightness: 30, Contrast 94, Sharpness 50, Colour temp user - Red 23 - Green 23 - Blue 23, DCR Off, ECO 25

Again i'm still slowly fine tuning mine. I found contrast on 94 to be the best for me. On the white balance test charts i gets improvements as i move down from 100 to 94, but after 94 i get no improvements and it simply makes everything darker for me.

My brightness could maybe be a touch higher to get a slightly better black balance but i quite like it as it is so far. The setting of 10 from TFT central gives me terrible black balance.

I've also found that any high than 23 on all my colour settings means i can't see all the levels/bands in the calibration images too.

I find at tftcentrals settings, I can not differentiate from Dark greys and black, so I had to calibrate by eye and basically sort the colours out.

My samsung, which was a tn panel, felt more accurate than my hazro. By this I mean the greys where not too warm or too cold.

I've managed to sort out the brightness and contrast cause i do a lot of webdesign and I realised I couldn't see most dark sites properly. I loade up a black level test and my monitor couldn't see the change in grey until level 12, the website states most monitors will begin to see by 5-8. (this using TFT centrals settings)

So my question is... What exactly areeee they calibrating for, 90% full blacks and full whites? Cause at that point I can not see slight grey differentiate from total black or total White. And this is bad :/

I'm not too sure what to do. I think the osd menu is total ********. Even a 60 pound crappy monitor has a better menu then hazros..

I paid 500 pound I don't like the cheap feel either. Clearly it's been developed offshore as the menus default language is Korean... Why? When this products only available in uk...

Seriously :/

There is a lot to like about this monitor, so don't get bogged down with the inconvenience of the OSD or the position of the buttons. As long as they get the job done!

The TFT Central review suggested settings from the calibrated results were based on an early HZ27WA which was not factory calibrated properly. I am now pretty convinced they are way off and not relevant to the screens consumers have received. Certainly a brightness level of 10 and ECO 25 would be way too dark for me.

What are your settings?

I' ve been tinkering for a while now and am currently at:
Brightness 36, Contrast 44, Sharpness 33 or 50, Colour Temp Normal (R30 G30 40) or User (R37 G34 B40), DCR Off, ECO 75

With these brightness and contrast settings, on the Lagon LCD Monitor test site, I can distinguish all the squares on the black level page and all the grey checkboard patterns on the white satuaration page and Darkbahamut I can see all the colour levels/bands in the contrast calibration images too.

The Sharpness and Gamma Calibration pages indicate the HZ27WA is nowhere near the sRGB standard, i.e. a gamma value of 2.2. But my eyes tell me gamma is not too far off, (maybe closer to 2.0) , so don't know what to make of that.

Anyway still fine tuning to get the perfect PQ

Awesome thread, got my wa sitting in front room with a 6970 now, wait just for the mobo and SSD. I know I'll need this thread :)

Can't wait to see it in action, I'm coming from only 20, too! Fingers cross no dead pixels :P

Finally some one that calibrates to see shades.

I'm going to try your settings but Eco 75. Isn't that a tad to high for a designer who sits infront of his screen 5+ hours a day

Yes ECO75 is fairly bright and I am in quandary about whether to use a setting of 75 or 50 (shame there is nothing in between). ECO75 does give wonderful vibrant colours which look great for games and when viewing photo's for recreation etc. ECO50 is easier on the eyes for working with Word/Excel etc for long periods under artifical light. Luckily changing ECO to 50 doesn't affect the screen set-up as it is dimming the backlight.

Until somebody comes up with something better, for the time being I've settled on:
Brightness 36, Contrast 44, Sharpness 33, Colour Temp User (R37 G34 B40), DCR Off, ECO 75 (might drop to 50)

He said it was for a WC screen, not a WA. I wouldn't use it on a WA screen as it will be very different.

Yep, it's for HZ27WC, thanks for pointing that out.

I'm posting in this thread as it's easy to find and specific for these monitors, no need to create another one for this model only as colour profiles are the only thing to share for them.

Now at:
Brightness 40, Contrast 54, Sharpness 33, Colour Temp User (R37 G34 B40), DCR Off, ECO 50

Been using this for the last couple of days at it seems to be a good compromise for windows applications and games.

This is great for games but just a bit too bright for anything else:
Brightness 36, Contrast 44, Sharpness 33, Colour Temp User (R37 G34 B40), DCR Off, ECO 75

TIP- If you haven't already done so drop the OSD HalfTone to 0. It still works fine but makes the undefeatable inut souce notification less obtrusive.

Slightly disappointed hardly anybody has bothered to post settings (are there so few HZ27WA owners?) , so thought I would bump the thread as it is several weeks old.

I don't have calibration hardware and not sure the ones I can afford cope with W-LED anyway, so interested in what others come up with especially if they calibrated the screen.

On the whole I am very satisfied with my screen although I have not got the colours quite as vibrant as my 20WGX² Pro. Eventually noticed a few dead pixels clumpedtogether bottom right of screen, well I think they are dead pixels but might be a blemish or dust underneath the H2 glare coating. Only shows on light colours and it took me fours weeks to notice so no big deal.

Would owners reccommend this monitor? I'm very interested in a 27" with this res and torn between this and a Dell U2711. Obviously the Hazro is quite a bit cheaper so wondering how well it performs in comparison?
