Hazro HZ27WC Display Issues (& Hazro Ignoring Me)

Hi, everyone.

So, I bought the Hazro HZ27WC 8-Bit 27" LED monitor back in June 2012 now. I've mostly been very happy with it; the quality is fantastic and I believe unmatched for the price (I paid £419 at the time).

When I bought it, I was aware Hazro mentioned there were 'timing' issues with it and the ATI Radeon HD 5850, and that it was AMD's fault, so I accepted this and understood I may have a few little problems.

Ever since I've had it, I've had this issue where there can be crackly horizontal red lines that flash randomly all over the screen (oddly worse in areas a certain shade of dark grey). Sometimes they appear immediately when turning on the computer, sometimes they don't at all. I eventually found a (annoying) way around it by using a setting in Catalyst called, if I recall correctly, Alternate DVI Timings. I'd just toggle this setting until the lines disappeared, and then I'd be set for the whole day without any further issues. They might occasionally come back if I've turned the monitor off, but I could simply fix it again by toggling the option.

So I put this down to their mentioned incompatibility with the 5850. I thought it wasn't a huge deal because I can get around it, albeit annoyingly, and I wouldn't be with that GPU forever, so once I've upgraded the problem should go away.

Well, I was wrong. I now have an Nvidia GTX 780, and unfortunately the problem is still present. In fact, it's worse: I can no longer fix it by just toggling an option. There is no equivalent 'alternative DVI timings' feature in the Nvidia Control Panel as far as I can tell. However, I have found one solution that works: switching the refresh rate to 59 Hz instead of 60 Hz. I have to do this every single time I start my computer, as I can't seem to set it permanently. Unfortunately, having my refresh rate at 59 Hz means all my fullscreen games tear very badly. V-Sync and Adaptive V-Sync don't help at all; it's like they still think they should be working at 60 fps instead of 59.

I was wondering if anyone has any idea why I'm experiencing this. Originally, I had thought it was the HD 5850's issue; now I'm thinking it's actually the monitor.

To make it worse, every email I've sent to Hazro over about 3-4 months has been completely ignored. I was hoping they might have an idea what's wrong. I'm now regretting my decision to by from Hazro. If anything more serious goes wrong with it, I have absolutely no idea where I can get support from. I expect it's out of warranty and Overclockers won't be able to help.

I did have a thought it might be a driver issue? I notice Hazro don't offer any drivers for this monitor (poor show, in my opinion), so I'm stuck with the ones Windows 8.1 provides (Generic PnP Monitor). I'm thinking the timings or whatever aren't right for the drivers.

I've been putting up with switching to 59 Hz, but I'm hoping there will be a better solution. I'd really appreciate any advice anyone can give me.

Thanks very much!

Thanks for the suggestion. That's actually the method I've been using; I should have mentioned. I even had a screenshot of my custom resolution, but I didn't bother sharing it as my post was getting big enough as it is.

Oddly, I've never managed to get it to stick, though? It always switches back to native when I restart. I'll try again and be sure to do 59.999 Hz as suggested in the video. Hopefully I won't get any tearing at least. I'll report later once I've played a few games.

Is this the reason for the display issues, then? Is there anything wrong with my monitor? Surely there must be a 'proper' way of fixing this? And is Hazro ignoring everyone's support requests? I'm really appalled about them ignoring me.

They will continue to ignore you, I had the same issue with my Hazro same model, I also couldn't see the BIOS at boot up and would only see a screen when Windows loaded.

Hazro kept on telling me this was an ATI GFX card issue which as we all now know is not the case, In my opinion this was just a way of fobbing the customer off.

Mine died after 2 and half years (perm red line from top to bottom on the monitor) so OCUK refunded me (lucky I guess as the monitor was destroyed in transit apparently!?)

Hazro refuse to answr questions regarding these monitors and if they do answer its normally "this isn't the monitor"

I contacted ATI about this issue as well and they had NO record of this monitors issues so as far as I was concerned Hazro was lying to customers.

I will never buy a Hazro again, its as simple as that really. Cheap yes, Quality no.

Thanks. I assume that means this has at least 3 years warranty. That's good to know.

I regret buying from Hazro, though I have been happy with the monitor otherwise. I'm surprised OcUK still sell them if the manufacturer doesn't provide support.

As for the new custom resolution with 59.999 Hz, it doesn't seem to let me maintain it. Nvidia Control Panel won't switch to it, thinking it's identical to the native resolution. Bloody annoying. The only time it actually used it is when I created it.

I wish there was a proper fix for it. I wonder if OcUK would offer any help under its warranty? It's not exactly fit-for-purpose as advertised.

I would be tempted to say the monitor is faulty if it doesn't work correctly at 60Hz although you might find it difficult to prove this.

If your getting red lines and what not at 60Hz surely this means faulty, Have you tried a different cable?
