Hello,

I hope somebody might be able to help a long time lurker. Unfortunately my HZ30w has decided to die, the led on the front flashes but the screen doesn't turn on. I have tried replacing the power supply to no avail, so thought the next logical step would be to have a look inside.

Maybe I'm being thick, but there doesn't seem to be any way to get the stand off the back. There are 2 philips screws located right at the base of the stand that are so recessed even an offset screwdriver is no good. I can't seem to get at them at all.

Has anyone had a similar fault, or has anyone managed to get the stand off this screen. Thanks for reading.

EDIT:

Adding some text so people can find this thread via Google easier.

Hazro won't turn on.
Light flashes.
Black screen.
Blank screen.
HZ30w repair.
Fix HZ30w.
Hazro won't power up.
Hazro stuck in sleep mode.
Hazro stuck in hibernate.

Okay, I managed to get the back off by making my own tool out of an old screwdriver, a hacksaw, a blow torch and a plastic coat hanger. No joke. I'm now inside this thing.

I checked the fuse and carried out a visual check of the capacitors on the transition minimized differential signalling board. All seemed to be okay. Powered it up with the back off and there was a blue spark near the inverter board, not sure what that means yet.

The most promising hope for repair is an intermittent whistle from the top board, whatever that is. I'm going to pack it up tonight and have a closer look at that top board tomorrow.

Check for any cracked solder joints, had an old TFT monitor at work recently die, opened it up to see the solder joints around the power socket on the main PCB had dried out and cracked, reflowed and its back working :)

I know the power socket is okay as I checked continuity. Something did arc near the inverter board on the case when I hooked up power though. I'll take a closer look tomorrow and update this thread. I'm sure it's fixable, but I tired myself out just getting the damn thing open!

Thanks for the reply :)

Okay, I can confirm the back light and inverter board a definitely okay. When I connected the bottom right pin on a transistor (q1) to ground the backlight lit up. I could then see the monitor cycle through red, green and blue. The high pitched whistle sound modulated with each different colour. I wish I knew what this meant.

I'm pretty sure a new main board would fix everything, But there's no serial number or anything. It looks like a hazro specific part.

Can anyone offer guidance?

Just an update, incase anyone finds this useful in the future. I have managed to revive my monitor. It turns out the EDID data stored on the EEPROM was corrupt. You can purchase Powerstrip and contact them for a special pin to unlock the EDID programming feature. Then you can either write a whole new EDID or Powerstrip can try to repair the existing versions header data.

In my case, only the first 8 bytes were corrupt. (all 00 00)

I've also got the same problem with mine. I think it must have happened when plugging and unplugging things in the back when the monitor was on. With powerstrip are you able to rewrite the correct EDID to the eeprom? Or does it just load a new edid to the graphics card, tricking it in a way?

Did a bit of reading up on powerstrip and answered my own questions about it. Canokid, could you please post your raw edid data for your monitor if it is a hazro HZ30W. Cos I've got the same monitor and the edid is corrupt but its not the header, its a whole chunk in the middle.

Damn nice work...

I had a similar problem with my HZ30W a year or so ago. Wasn't quite the same fault (flashing LED on most outputs, scrambled signal from my GTX480), but I never considered looking at repairing the EDID data.

That's some serious electronic wizardry. Bravo Sir :)

I'm curious how you figured some of that stuff out. If you have time, please enlighten us for the sake of learning.

Duff-man could you please send me a copy of the raw edid for your monitor? Or post it here. My EDID for the HZ30W is scrambled in the middle and after emailing Hazro they've told me that they can't help.

Sorry grid - I don't have the screen any more :(

It was sent back to Hazro for repair around the time the HZ30Wi were introduced - I got one of those as a replacement.

Really is a pity if Hazro can't send you the EDID data...

Thats a shame! I was beginning to get my hopes up... I'm still hoping that either Canokid or Ethereal2011 will come back and look at this page. I sent them both friend requests in the hope it would trigger an automatic email but so far there's been no response.

Mine's still going

If you search his username on Google there are a few hits, including recent activity on some BF3 forums. With a little luck may well be the same guy :)
