HD 2900 XTX Specs

So the XTX is just a XT with twice the memory and GDDR4?

A bit lame IMO as the current xt can already do over 1ghz memory with the stock cooler and does another 512mb vram really make a difference?

Think everyones known the xtx specs for a while now. Don't see why they don't ramp up the clockspeeds on the core, its capable of much more.

How is the XTX slower than the XT? Is it because GDDR4 uses higher latency and just higher clocks so GDDR3 is better than it?

If they clocked the GDDR4 higher then it would be faster,

But the GDDR3 vs GDDR4 @ same memory clocks the GDDR3 is faster because it has lower latencys,

But they will releise GDDR4 version for overclockers etc imo, or some companys like asus etc might clock it higher them selvs then sell them for higher.

I just looked and it has some insane memory bandwith tho, 130+ GB/sec

You get 130gb/s from GDDR3 at 1000mhz (2000mhz) on the 2900.

But yes the GDDR4 if you took that to 1000mhz (2000mhz) then god knows how high the bandwidth would be, it would by sky high but the higher latencys allso reduce its performance a bit but it would still be better clocked than GDDR3 clocked.

But at stock, the GDDR4 is slower

It could be a Sapphire thing, the GPU supports GDDR4 out of the box, so changing the memory chips shouldn't be too hard.

Or AMD have lied... again.

'No XTXs'
'Whats that behind you?'
'erm..... XTs'
'You sure?'
'Would I lie to you?'

Hi there

Basically an HD 2900 XT clocked at 750MHz and 2.1GHz memory is roughly how an HD 2900 XTX will perform. Still nothing to say however that the XTX might not hit 2.5GHz and over 800MHz core with ease which would no doubt be rather quick.

I dunno if I'd say they've lied as such. I think they've just been hedging their bets while frantically trying to put something together to compete with the 8800GTX behind the scenes.

Understatement of a lifetime.. ;)

hmm odd cos Anandtech said we wouldnt see any XTXs but guess theres still a demand for it/proberly not worth even bringing out cos it will cost a lot more then an GTX and still perform slower/
