HD 4870 no signal

I just bought a new graphics card after my 9800GT fried, and after installing it i turned on my pc and i'm getting no picture :/ with my old 9800GT i was updating the drivers and the card fried, when the card was in the system it wouldnt start and i had no picture. could the two be linked?
also i checked my device manager and PCI serial port and PCI Simple Communications Controller havent got any drivers installed (code 28)
I have a intel G45ID motherboard if that helps?

Do you have another PCI_E socket you can test it in? You might want to try testing it in another PC as well.

also i'm only using one 6 pin cable but i have the 4 pin to 6 pin connectors (came with the card) but i don't know how to use them
