How much performance difference am I gonna get? I was think of getting one for DX11 and being a more powerful card.
Thanks

5850 at stock will be anything between 10-20% better, could be more or less depending on the game, overclock the 5850 to say 5870 speeds and then you're laughing.

ive xfire xxx edition 4890s i run crysis @63 fps maxed
WIC @ 93 max settings only real benefits for 5xxx series would be direct x11 and maybe 10% better fps if i spent 600 pounds on a 5970.... the choice is yours my friend make it and be happy.

If you have no interest in playing newer games with DX11 turned on, and cannot afford to stretch to a 5850, then the 4890 is a good substitute.

However, the lifespan of the 5850 will be 12-24months longer than the 4890. It will be 10-20% faster in current games, probably more in soon to be released and furture games, and it will overclock MUCH better than the best 4890's. It also uses less power, is quieter, runs cooler and supports many more features. It will also hold it's value much better when you come to sell it.

For an extra ~£80 I think the 5850 is well worth stretching to.

I laughed at bit at the immense increase in performance from my 4870 to 5850 (not overclocked yet) so I would have thought you could be looking at a decent increase too.

To be honnest, the 4890 will play all current and forthcoming games at resolutions up to 1920x1200 on medium to high settings. Many of the newer games will not be able to run at max settings, but graphics alone do not make a good game. A good game is good at all settings.

I suggest checking out some 4890 vs 5770 reviews as these cards are more evenly priced. The 4890 will win most benchmarks, but the 5770 overclocks better, supports DX11, and will likely be the faster card for newly released and future games. At ~£120 I would personally choose the 5770 1GB. At £220 the 5850 is the card to get.
