HD 5770 Upgrade

Get the 280!

You're practically moving from a AMD 4870 level performance to 7950 performance with the 280, that performance jump is going to be F'ing huge!!!!!!

I went from a 5770 to a 280x in the past few days and absolutely could not believe the difference. Of course shortly the 290 will be coming down to what I paid for the 280x but hey ho...

Try and hold out.

I've seen a few 290 sell for £165-170

2nd hand prices may drop further now that AMD has reduced the prices of the cards new.

maybe i will wait for the 290 to drop then, i could go to £200 but no more.

Will my PSU be able to handle a R290 ? might be pushing it a bit much no ?

Noticed the prices have dropped today, considering the R9 290 but will it be overkill as my monitor is only 1080p and not going to be changing it at any time.

Anyone here have the MSI Radeon R9 290 Gaming Edition 4096MB ? wondering how loud this thing gets ? don't want a plane in my bedroom.

The twin Frozr coolers aren't normally too loud, over 45 - 50% my old 6870 (although that was Twin Frozr III) was audible, but not mega intrusive.

Just ordered the MSI 290 Gaming, for just over £200 with the 3 free games or whatever it is (that can be easily sold on MM), that's a bloody good deal! :D

was going to order the MSI 290 but after watching that youtube video, the noise is far too much.

It's strange in that video it was really loud, but everyone says its quiet. Think i will just buy it and if it's too loud just return it ?

I don't think you can ever really compare real life to somebody recording noise on a random (probably cheap) mic at their desk... Also he had it running at 100%, I've never ever seen a GPU get to 100% without manually setting it and every GPU I have ever owned at 100% sounds like a jet engine about to take off! :D

Also I think distance selling regulations mean if you don't like the item now, you must pay a restocking fee (10%?), where as before I think you could return without paying anything, so buy wisely! :)
