HD 5770 voltage issues

Hi

I just removed the heatsink to install some ramsinks but I don't have any thermal paste at hand.

I reinstalled the heatsink and booted.

idle temps was about 5*C higher but load went to 100+ and the voltage straight to 1.2v

my HD5770 is v3 no it does NOT support overvoltage. what is happening?

If you didn't have any thermal paste at hand, then I assume you used the used thermal paste that was already on the GPU core. You will definitely need a new application of non-conductive thermal compound to get temps back to what they should be (or slightly better).

i didn't use thermal paste. i did the same thing with my HD 5850 and temps didn't increase 1*C

the card has a stock voltage of 1.2v which is the maximum MSI Afterburner allows (but this does not apply as I can not increase voltage via software)

You got lucky with your other card. You defo need new on. Why have you put ram sinks on. What were there before. Can you post a picture

YAY!! fixed!!

(pheww)

gust got some paste on (that was left from my Xigmatek Balder) and now works perfectly fine. still @ 1.2v though which I can't understand why but its 30idle and 56load with kombastor
