Hi Guys,

I have a little problem with my almost new gfx card, It keeps crashing in game. It's as if it just turns it's self off. my screen goes blank and flashes up not connected as if the pc is turned off. Some times i can play for hours and it won't do it and other times it will do it after 10 mins, and today it did it 6 times in 30 mins. that can't be good. I have tried installing new drivers and updating windows but the problem is still there.

The only msg i get in the event log is ( The driver \Driver\ATITool failed to load for the device Root\*ATITOOLDEVICE\0000.

0000000067: 2011-01-06 21:01:16:494 FAILED:ADL_Display_SLSGrid_Caps and return value is: -1

Thanks for taking the time to read this and any advice or help.

It kind of looks like something to do with the ccc or the .net framework.

What to do or try?

I would first unistall all ati software, delete the foldersi n the program files, reboot, and then just install the display driver, not the ccc.

That at least will remove the things its complaining about from crashing.....

However, technically this hould not be a solution as the ccc should not be turnng the monotor off etc....

But its worth a try.

You could also try reseatig the card and checking power before doing above.

Alternatively it could be the factory overclock isnt stable, casuing the drivers to misbehave....

Alternative your cpu overclock isnt stable?

Hi and thanks for the reply.

Ok, i have unistalled all ati software and folders and just tried the card on display driver, also took the card out and put it back in and replaced the power lead to it from the psu. It was fine in game for about 40 mins then it did the same and just shut down.

I'm not sure if it could be a problem with the mobo or one of the controllers but it runs fine with both my BFG 9600 OC cards in with no crashes at all.

Do you think it might help to update the Bios?

Yes i did have the 8GB when running the 9600s

What Bios update would you recommend?

Bios 5001 looks like it fixes some problems with the 5 series ati cards and it might allow to to also upgrade my cpu.

I think the problem has been fixed.

Reset Bios then updated to 5001 / updated to latest .net framework / Installed Catalyst 10.12.

Not sure if it was the Bios or the net framework update that fixed it but it did.

no more crashing. :D
