HD 5870 BIOS Flashing

If anyone could help me, I'd appreciate it.

My HD 5870 has started to give me the grey screen of death (grey with green vertical lines) more frequently than ever. ATI issued an official fix for this in their drivers, but it never helped my problem. I believe the card is out of warranty, am currently looking for the receipt.

I've had the GSOD in GTA IV and DiRT 3, and also had graphical corruption in DiRT 3 and on the desktop afterwards with 11.5b drivers (which I think may just be a driver issue). Also, my PC often fails to post the first time, and despite my returning to stock settings and so on, the problem persists, and I'm beginning to think the GFX may be responsible.

The card is a VTX Radeon 5870. The BIOS version is 012.011.000.006.034494. I understand there is a newer BIOS version for these cards, and as far as I can see, this card is totally reference. Can anyone link me to a REFERENCE BIOS for the card, and has anyone done this themselves? I'm hoping that the newer BIOS can take care of the problems I'm having, as I believe it has for some others.

EDIT: Oh, and I have stress tested the card with Unigene heaven and Furmark, neither present the problem on demand, and temps are fine.

Is there a TL;DR problem here or does nobody actually know?

Today I was playing Metro 2033 and the card produced another grey/grey screen with vertical lines, then flicked back to a static shot of the game (with artifacts), then carried on as normal. Upon exiting the game, the desktop had artificats until restart.

This is a new problem, has anyone else experienced this? I want to know if the card is duff or if it just needs the new BIOS or not.

Thanks in advance for any useful responses.

Well the things I would do to start with, would be put the card on default clocks and volts if overcloked and use the lates official drivers 11.5 and go from there.

Trouble shooting an overclcoked card with beta drivers is trying to test something with too many variables.

I just tried looking for the bios for you, I dont think VTX have it on their site.

But you could contact them here: http://www.vtx3d.com/comp_contactus.asp

Card isn't overclocked, never has been to my knowledge.

I'm using the official 11.5s. I've had the problem occasionally with older drivers as well, so it wouldn't seem confined to one set unfortunately.

Thanks for the response!

Could you be more specific please? Are you referring to drivers - 11.5b? They caused me some issues with DiRT 3 unfortunately (see OP).

As I said above, the problem comes and goes, but it seems to happen more and more recently, seemingly regardless of which driver set I'm using.

When I was getting this I asked Sapphire to send me their updated BIOS that I had read about and it seemed to improve stability. The visible change was that stock and load default voltages were higher. So first I would say install MSI Afterburner latest version and try increasing the GPU vCore slightly.
