Hd 5970+5870 crossfire help

Brought a Hd 5870 to go with the 5970 tri as a stop gap to play crysis and others at 2560 x 1440 (even though they short on vram, waitng till next gen)

Board is a gigabyte extreme and all is ok when using the first two 16 pci slots, but as is the case the heat on the first card is way to high 90 degree. The cards can only go Hd 5870 first then 5970 because i have also a Revodrive x2 (would cover fan on 5870 if other way around so both card fans covered and this is the only way they can go 16 x2.

Ok easy solution the 5870 can go in the 8 x slot at the bottom 16x8 and the revodrive in the second 16x slot easy well no. Windows can see all cards but CCC will not see the second card to tri-fire.

Difficult to explain unless you can see it anyone any ideas or had same problems, done all the reinstall etc

Hard to explain thinK it comes down to how to get 16 and 8x to work on a Gigabyte extreme lga1366 with on more slots free (3 cards 3 slots)

Crappy mother board because of this (Note 3) The PCIEX8_1 slot shares bandwidth with the PCIEX16_2 slot

So 16x 2 slot and 8x slot have to be graphics cards, now works with
Revodrive 16x slot 1
5970 16x slot 2
5870 8x slot3.

Now i have 8x8 with the 5870 covering the 5970 cannot win.

Have to hope for early release of 7000 series and give the wife these, she got crossfire 4890s lol

I know it's late but I'm not understanding that post.

Do you still have a problem that needs sorting?

Do you have the Gigabyte GA-EX58-EXTREME?

Yup sorted just means cannot use the slots i wanted to part the graphics cards cause one will share with the Revodrive and CCC will not see it. Yup have EX58, just hard to explain lol

Had to put it back as it was, put some rubber bungs between cards to open the gap up a litte running 16x 2 and the revo in the 8x slot

I don't understand. Where did you bring the 5870?

By inserting a rubber foot of my case i managed to part the cards by about 5cm, this has made a massive differance, temps under load went from 90 to 80 degree and 54 normal use. This is about as good as can get it.

Got them last year have to be ordered from Germany took about 7 weeks, were about £978.00 for the two. Black glass a pain to keep clean (finger marks etc)
