HD 6870 Split screen problem?

I'm having a weird problem where my screen will suddenly split into two halves and go a bit liney? It has a black line down the middle and the right side of the screen is on the left of my display and the left is on the right.

It happened at first when I was watching videos and I found the fix of going to the settings of the video and unticking hardware accelaration button.. which seemed to work fine. But now it has happened whilst playing battlefield3.

Any ideas? My temps are all stable so not sure what the problem is.

No it seems to happen randomly for no apparent reason. I have installed the latest drivers.

AMD FX 6100 3.3ghz processor
Asus M5A97 AMD 970 Mobo
XFX ATI Radeon HD 6870 1024MB
8gb DDR3 Ram
650w PSU

OK So I have installed extra fans to make sure everything is cool, I have tried a different monitor, different VGA cable and a different dvi connector thing.... and its still happening!!

The really interesting thing is I tried to take a screenshot of the problem and when I paste it into paint the screen appears normal. I guess this suggests the monitor or cables but I have tested a whole different set and whats the chances of the same weird problem happening on two monitors that were both working fine before this?

Any other ideas guys? This is driving me insane!!

I'm thinking it still could be the card. RMA it, you've tried everything else. Screenshotting it won't help as it takes the image of what the PC thinks it's displaying, not what is actually seen on screen.

only way to properly make sure though is to test with an older card, or test the 6870 in another system.

Hmmm I don't have the ability to test it in another system and the only other card I have is an old one which I won't be able to play battlefield and this is the game that it happens with.

OK can I cross out the monitor totally then? I have a ticket open with XFX, last I spoke to him he said to test the monitor. I'll get back to you, thanks for quick reply dude.

Aye, I'd RMA it too, but be clear on the symptoms and the sporadic nature. Like I say the only time I've seen this was on a 68** card that was overclocked too high, that yours is doing it at stock tells me the card is probably not 100%.
