bought the LG HD BR drive and have read the software is a bit buggy, anyone recommend a good playback software for BR/HD/DVD?

So ridiculous that we can't use whatever player we want - give me Media Player Classic any day.

Having lived with both for a while, TMT is miles better than PowerDVD. Integrates nicely with Vista Media Centre as well, so no dropping to desktop to play a Blu-ray or HD-DVD.... and OP, while you're at it, don't forget AnyDVD HD as well.

I'd recommend TMT. I use it on my HTPC and it's never given me any bother, it also integrates itself into Media Centre out the box without any messing about.

TMT will also play HDDVD while PDVD8 requires a hack to re-enable it as it was taken out in that release.

what about VLC.

I use that for all my DVD's (standard and Hi-Def), but i am playing them off the HDD, dunno if it works with HD/BR from a opitical drive

Bit of a thread revival here but has the situation changed at all? I've got a HTPC set up with MediaPortal using KMPlayer and there seems to be no way to play HD or BD discs.

I seriously don't want to touch the PowerDVD bloatware that comes with the drive :(

So is there really no way to play Blu-Ray for free after spending nearly £100 on a drive?

The PowerDVD version that came with the drive won't even install on 64-bit Vista.
