Hi guys, thinks thsi is the right place for this thread, if not mods please move :)

Im considering buy the HD DVD add on for my 360. But I have a two questions that hopefully can be answered.

1. Is there an improvement when playing Standard DVD's in the HD DVD drive, as opposed to the 360? (connected via component, and it looks pritty poor imo.

2. Is there an issue with heat for the drive? or does it stay fairley cool unlike the 360 itself!

Thanks in advance

Far as im aware if you connect the 360 using VGA then the regular dvd's get upscaled. Upscaling (afaik) doesn't work with component.

As for the drive, quiet and smooth barely any noise out of it, not noticed any heat either. :)

Fantastic. What does SD content look like Via component through the HD-DVD drive? I played X-men 2 through my 360 at 720p and it looked pritty poor. Changed it to 1080i, it was better but no where near what i call reasonable/standard DVD quality. Looked like SD TV!

Standard DVD's via the HD-DVD drive via component are pretty decent, just like a normal DVD player, they arent upscaled though, this is only possible through VGA for some reason but it wasnt the reason I brought the drive for. HD-DVD is where its at :)

Oh so they do look okay, I read a thread on AV forums, that said they looked no different than the playback through the 360  Which then settled my mind on getting the Denon DVD-1730 instead, but im in two minds again now!

I was going to try and see the difference between the hd-dvd drive and the drive in the 360 but then i remembered i got the dreaded 3 red lights 2 days ago!!!.

Is this only by the HD DVD Drive? I think the quality of DVD's in the 360 via component is fantastic... The definition is amazing on DVD's like The Matrix Reloaded, Blade, new star wars films etc...

There is NOT ANY difference between playing an SD-DVD through the built in DVD-ROM or through the HD-DVD add-on, becuase both of them are just a drive which sends the same data to the XBOX. It is the console which does any upscaling or not.
If you think the picture is rubbish through DVD drive, it will look as rubbish through the HD-DVD.
Maybe the reason is not the 360, but more likely the scaler in your TV is not very good.
