that thing looks HUGE!! It just doesnt seem to want to 'go' with the 360 but trying to be totally away from it, i think it would be better if they had made it rest where the 360 starts to get thin or something
PS3 is looking smaller every minute

is there anything showing how it hooks up to the 360?? that is what i am curious about, think daveyd is too lol

i think that would look quite good under tv, ya 360 and that on same shelf or one on top of the other (shelf wise)

Watching the MS Conference, it does look pretty massive, I'd say as thick as the 360 is itself.

the fact that it gets thin in the middle but appears to load from the side is whats throwing me i think, it looks like a mini 360 but with disks loading in where the HDD goes, all wrong imho, shoulda been loading the same way the 360 does

It hooks upto the 360 via USB. I'm surpraised by the design as I expected it to fit or dock under/above the 360. The design looks totally the opposite...

Yeah but what one is the question lol

Yeap u must have been expecting the same thing as me, these 2 suckers will need to sit side by side :(

If it connects via usb (which is what I believe it to be too) where's the HDMI lead? From the HD-DVD player? Or a new lead on the 360? These are the questions I find myself asking.

Personally I can't tell what it'll look like next to the 360 from these sketches. But I fail to believe MS haven't done their homework and it'll look pretty good.

You don't connect the HDMI lead to the drive, they both connect to the 360 :) (the drive just sends the raw data to the 360, it doesn't do anything "special").

I was wondering whether the HDMI lead was from the 360 or the HDDVD drive. My presumption was always that MS could do a HDMI lead from the 360 but some earlier threads indicated that the port on the back of the 360 was analogue only; hence the questions.

You would have thought the console would have been designed for this to be integrated into it better - I know a HD-DVD release was not a cert from the outset - but still...

im really surprised at that design

one: i think it should be convex so that it sits snug inside the 360s concave curve, this would be difficult however if the HDDVD addon was not as tall as the 360, as it will still need to be able to stand up, and fit snug

two: both the drives should face the same way when they fit together

Check out my mockup.

But it's all about choices.

You can either have...

XBOX360|HDDVD

or

HDDVD
XBOX360

or

HX
DB
DO
VX
D

or

XH
BD
OD
XV
3D

You cann't have : HDDDVD|XBOX360 as the hard drive wouldn't enabled the two to be slotted together (well, it would without a HDD).

So you have a vertical or horizontal system with the only restriction is if you have a HDD, then you're forced to one way if you go horizontal AND you want them full flush.

I suspect part of the reason for the design of the drive is because it's probably a standard IDE/SATA HD-DVD unit inside a custom casing (would keep costs down, and mean MS could source the drives from any manufacturer), and it can be put wherever you want in relation to the 360, within range of the cable.

I wouldn't be suprised to see it come with a stand, and for third parties to make some kind of disk holder/stand for it.

What would be quite nice, would be if you are using the HDDVD drive you could run games off it instead of the built in DVD drive, so you could have the actual 360 hidden with just the drive showing :)

Sorry, but you're being nothing but a muppet. You're aware it's impossible to make a DVD fit into anything smaller than a DVD spaced hole?! It's the size of a PC DVD drive.

Doesn't go with the Xbox360!? It's the same shape, design and colour scheme... it couldn't be MORE like the Xbox360.
