I have a Sky+ box Amstrad DRX280 http://www.amstrad.com/products/digisat/drx280.html

Im looking to upgrade the HD as its only with a 160GB disk. I have filled this already and I am looking at putting a 500GB drive inside.

After much reviewing of the process on the net it seems I need a 500GB IDE ATA100 drive which is 'CE' consumer edition which is approved for low power video based devices. From what I have read if you stick a generic 500GB drive inside it may not work correctly, the fan can stay on perminantly etc.

Does anyone know any good IDE drives that are 'CE'?

Thanks in advance!

Just had a look at my WD Product list and you could look at the WD5000AVJB if you want a specific CE/PVR drive. To be honest though, a normal desktop drive will be fine.

Found the "WD5000AVJB" all over the web but not in stock anywhere. Thing about the normal drives is they make the fan come on and are noisy compared to the CE drives (according to reports from people who have been through this process - 'av-forums etc').

Will have to keep looking for a CE or AV drive thats IDE. :/

Thanks anyway though.

What about using a 2.5 laptop drive with an adaptor if you are worried about heat as these run a lot cooler and quieter than normal hard drives.
